Mahakarya Geo Survey Sets in Motion Metinaro Survey Campaign with Promising Progress in Onshore Geotechnical Drilling
Geo Survey (MGS) has achieved notable milestones in the eagerly awaited Metinaro Survey Campaign, embarking on an extraordinary journey by commencing the first drilling for onshore geotechnical survey on Friday, June 9, 2023, in the Metinaro region.
Following the successful completion of the Topographic Survey, #MGS seamlessly transitioned into the next phase of the campaign, diligently carrying out the Onshore Geotechnical Survey. Simultaneously, MGS has been actively engaged in three other Scope of Work components, namely Offshore Geotechnical Survey, Site Geophysical Survey, and Metocean Survey.
Supervising the inaugural drilling operations is Clementino Pereira, the esteemed Project Manager of Timor Gap, who is accompanied by a dedicated and proficient Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team from Timor Gap. Placing the importance on safety, health, and environmental considerations within the drilling area, MGS committed to safeguarding the well-being of personnel and minimizing any potential impact on the surrounding environment.
The comprehensive campaign encompasses the rigorous execution of a total of 45 survey points, involving a diversed array of cutting-edge techniques such as Onshore Drilling (Soil Sampling), CPTu (Cone Penetration Test), and Test Pit methodologies. These selected survey points are poised to provide invaluable geotechnical data for in-depth analysis and evaluation, specifically in relation to the upcoming LNG Terminal project of Timor Gap in Metinaro.
These subsequent stages will harness advanced methodologies and techniques to further augment the understanding of the area's intricate subsurface characteristics, thereby fortifying the knowledge base for future decision-making processes.
Undoubtedly, the Metinaro Survey Campaign signifies a monumental milestone for both #MahakaryaGeoSurvey and TIMOR GAP, E.P., as they synergize their efforts to amass vital geotechnical and geophysical information. This ambitious undertaking stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of both organizations, fostering sustainable development in the illustrious nation of Timor-Leste.
Funny, Lawson was closely associated with this survey
Our beautiful new pontoon. Made in #timorleste by Mahakarya Geo Survey.
Kudos to MGS Party Chief and his team on the beach worksite for a very professional job with fabrication and testing. This is one of two floaters deployed to acquire geotechnical data for a jetty FEED. Facilities on deck include borehole drill rig, downhole seismic equipment and #CPTu. MGS are currently conducting a survey campaign for TIMOR GAP which also includes acquisition of nearshore #geophysical, bathy, #metocean, onshore geophysical, onshore #geotechnical and #topography data. Appreciation goes to MGS project and engineering management team, Yanes David and Erikson Franky Sormin for successfully progressing the extensive works at the Metinaro sites. And excellent support from TIMOR GAP, E.P. PM Clementino Pereira and his team with the activities not least organising direct engagement of the local community in the work.
Metanaro seems to have disappeared off the radar

I like to think of Chuditch as a strategic energy project.

This was posted a while back by Geoff McKee on LinkedIn. Pretty much agree with all of it.

It is truly remarkable that petroleum engineering is so popular in Timor Leste, when in the West it is declining in popularity due to government’s “net zero” push. The popularity in Timor Leste must be based on high societal expectations that the Greater Sunrise gas resource now owned by the people of Timor Leste will one day offer lots of opportunities to petroleum engineers. This remains to be seen. Maybe China can invest in Xanana’s dream of onshore LNG because in this age of climate alarmism maybe funds are drying up for new fossil fuel projects. It is difficult to understand why Timor Leste became a signatory to the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty idea when so many young students pin their hopes in a career in petroleum engineering -
Thanks Jarvy. Our friends and future partners Inpex. The pieces falling into place nicely.
The news on a rig moving suggests funding is in place or guaranteed. Really positive news.
For anyone interested in Steve Bracks news conference from yesterday’s meeting. It’s one minute in.

Interesting that Wood PLC undertaking the Greater Sunrise concept study has links to Shell.

Wood joint venture secures new framework agreement with Shell in Trinidad & Tobago
Wood’s joint venture company, Massy Wood, has secured a five‑year framework agreement with Shell Trinidad and Tobago (Shell), for the delivery of engineering projects and asset support in Trinidad and Tobago.
This agreement will support Shell’s onshore and offshore assets,
Wood’s President of Operations, Americas, said: “This award is built on our long-standing relationship with Shell where we have a reputation for delivering high quality projects with an excellent safety record. This win provides significant opportunities for our local teams to continue their commitment to deliver the future of energy through process and operational improvements as we move closer to net-zero.”

VT. The story is new and it is quite significant. They’re doing a cost analysis of an agreed solution?
The article is dated today. But that’s an old story. So, sorry about that. Nothing new.
Sounds like a breakthrough. Big news if so.
On a more positive note. Looks like the two governments are costing an agreed approach to Greater Sunrise
More procrastination. Never ends.
Study of economic concepts for the Greater Sunrise project has begun.
DILI, 8 April 2024 (TATOLI) - Representative of Australia for Greater Sunrise, Steve Bracks informed that both the Governments of Australia and Timor-Leste have started an economic concept study for the Greater Sunrise project. Steve Bracks conveyed this after meeting with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to discuss the continuation of the Greater Sunrise project, accompanied directly by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPRM, Francisco da Costa Monteiro). Related news: PM Xanana-Steve Bracks discuss the process of developing Greater Sunrise "This was a very productive meeting, where we certainly discussed the Greater Sunrise project and how to develop it further. We have contracted a company to start an economic concept study for the Greater Sunrise project," said Steve Bracks at the Government Office, this Monday.
Steve Bracks made it clear in the Government Office on Monday. The company that was chosen to start the study was Wood Australia, with a branch office located in London, United Kingdom. "The study has already started last week and it is expected to end this year so that we know what the result is like and what should be done in the next process," he emphasized. Wood is an international engineering company with a focus on the oil and gas sector. The company operates in more than 60 countries, employs around 55,000 people, with revenue of over $10 billion. Wood previously operated as Wood Group PSN, Wood Group Kenny Australia, and Wood Group Intearitv Manaaement.
The PR is now full on. It will pay off. This is what we needed.

Anything which can possibly circumvent Woodside and Australia is a positive.
Shalamar. If you’re invested here, then rich Arab states or Chinese companies investing in the TL gas sector is good news. Possibly share moving news. So, wise up.

The Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam in Timor-Leste, Wan Hadfi Latif, met with Prime Minister (PM) Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to update them on the support Brunei will provide to Timor-Leste. "The purpose of this meeting is to recount the return visit from the President of Timor-Leste to Brunei, which took place last November and identified three important sectors for cooperation, such as health, oil and gas, and education," said Ambassador Brunei Wan Hadfi Latif after meeting PM Xanana at the Government Palace.
Brunei Darussalam wants to cooperate with Timor-Leste in developing the education and petroleum sectors. There have been ongoing technical discussions between Brunei and Timor-Leste to realize this plan. "The technical discussions between Brunei and Timor-Leste are ongoing, concerning what Timor-Leste needs in this cooperation. But in bilateral relations, the relationship between the two nations is going well, especially the relationship between our traditional ruler and Prime Minister Xanana," said the diplomat. The Prime Minister promised to coordinate with the ministries to discuss this matter soon. Brunei is waiting for the technical team, especially those who will go to Brunei for further discussions.

For more than twenty years I have watched the quest by Xanana Gusmao and his colleagues to commercialise his country's largest resource asset, and the barriers that have been placed in front of him.
I was directly involved with the formulation of this plan to develop Greater Sunrise in a holistic manner, to benefit the people of Timor-Leste. Thus I support the incredible effort, not only by my friend Xanana Gusmao, but by President Jose Ramos Horta, former Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri, Ministers Agio Pereira, Alfredo Pires and Francisco Monteiro - who have all been devoted to developing Greater Sunrise for the benefit of Timor-Leste. This project is much more important to Timor-Leste than just dollars and cents, it is about capacity building and developing sustainable skills.
This article by Rex Patrick is appreciated and I hope it generates more support to help Timor-Leste
