m2p........Greene King is,imo, the least attractive stock in the sector. Has a relatively old estate which is in dire need of updating and from a consumer's viewpoint not orientated towards today's market. Your view that Institutions, are targeting is probably correct. You follow those trends more than me. I tend to look at the fundamentals of any business.

Against the recent sector gloom, this is a solid and Positive report consistent with July's statement and more recently Berenberg's endorsement of MARS within the sector. Still a cheap share to hold for the future, imo.

blue....came to a halt as it was clear the sector review by Berenberg, as mentioned by Londoner, was the crux of falls generally within the sector. Particularly Greene King. Berenberg's were substantially recommending MARS as being more resilient etc. Falls today after last week's recovery(Mars) is again sector wide. Company statement due tomorrow (Tuesday), which will, hopefully, silence the de-rampers!!.

OT, did think Hammond may have indicated some Tax possibility, but cannot find anything. The usual groups, CAMRA and co, are lobbying hard for Tax reductions. CAMRA believes TORY MP's are good allies as the current Parliamentry make-up is vulnerable. Those interested in Beer, Cider etc are urged to contact MP. CAMRA are really more concerned about Pub survival and Craft Brewers which in turn helps the whole industry. That said, Londoner's post is No doubt the reason for today's fall much like Greene King's recent report and how that effected MARS< MAB>WTB. Next week's report will be interesting...imo MARS are more resilient than others within the sector. We'll see.

OT, seems most of the Brewers have fallen this am. Will make further enquiries.

Absolutely OT, results on Monday 'could' be better than expected and better than other sector results recently. At least we know a Director has confidence.

Greene King and Whitbread decline just over 1%. Marstons hold relatively steady and Broker rates as Buy(21/9). Will see what tomorrow brings and 1st October, MARS holding it's own against sector sentiment today, looks promising for future.

Yes, amazing how one Company's report (GK) can influence others in the sector. Providing the report on 1st is up to expectations, should continue the move North.

Published a report late last night where they analysed 3 brewers, MAB,GK and MARS. In essence GK have problems with an old estate, MAB similar, and MARS they conclude have/are modernising with some success, however FP recommend Sell on all 3. It seems this is based on the economic cycle more than anything. Whether one accepts FP's report is quite debateable as in the case of MARS they believe in 2 years time the company may well have made significant progress. Reports like this are confusing and will only have a negative effect on the SP as we are seeing today. The annual report in a couple of weeks will give us a much better picture. Long term confidence remains.

Agree, can be very confusing for the reader. To be fair I have only taken Continetal at the Marston Taverns I frequent, and did appear other customers were ordering cooked which appeared more than adequate. I was/am impressed by the Restaurants which offer a larger range than Premier and at good price. I have made the comment before that there could be latitude to review the food pricing at some point.

MARS have more in the pipeline, not sure where. Not sure about Premier either, my recent experiences were not good. Usually have Continental breakfast which has changed, some items no longer available and yet menus not changed. Noted other customers could no longer help themselves to hot meals.....had to give order to waitress and some complained of small portions, some about no tomatoes( waitress said they had run out). Really I ask you, middle of summer in UK. I think WHTB are getting more cost conscious, which is fine for their business and good for ours when Customers discover the excellent value at Marstons.

Suspect Greene King have estate problems which they appear to be stripping out.
