(Ecofin Agency) - The Congolese government announced on January 11 in a press release that it had entrusted the construction of a mineral port in Pointe-Noire to the Chinese group China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

This mineral port aims to "increase the country's import and export capacity of goods and strengthen the capacity of the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire (PAPN)", one of the largest in the Gulf of Guinea, the same source added. The plan for the new port infrastructure has just been presented to the Congolese Minister of Spatial Planning, Jean-Jacques Bouya, by the Chinese company in charge of the works. It is apparent from this plan that the ore port will be built over an area of 9 km2 and will have 31 berths. A power plant, storage units, a potash plant, a smelter, a refinery, a commercial space and a railway handling centre are also planned, according to the project model.

To meet the needs of mineral mining companies, the port will receive vessels with a capacity of up to 300,000 tonnes. The total traffic capacity envisaged is 46 million tonnes, consisting of 40 million tonnes of iron, 3 million tonnes of potash and 3 million tonnes of multi-purpose stations.

The mineral port of Pointe-Noire will also allow the import of equipment, everyday consumer products and construction materials.

China Road and Bridge Corporation also plans to connect the port to the national road and rail transport network.

But the 1st Tranche was accompanied by .."An application for the admission of the 12 million Subscription Shares in the First Tranche will be made shortly and the 12 million Subscription Shares in the First Tranche are expected to be admitted to trading on AIM on 5 July 2023..."

Wouldn't the 2nd Tranche 12m shares be subject to a similar procedure and announcement? Or could Shard be dealing on a 'when and if' basis ? In which case, it'll have to deliver by Thursday...

It was WoodMac that seemed to think Mbalam was/is still in the running, despite the ongoing Sundance multibillion $$ litigation.

The irony being that, if Chinese-owned British Steel gets the subsidy (paid for by the taxpayer) and starts producing green steel, it'll be in competition with suppliers from the M East , with their brand spanking new plants and super-efficient steel production (hopefully with ''African'' ore).

At which point 'British Steel' will cry 'foul' and ask for tariff barriers to protect its market, so the consumer (again, the public) will pay over the odds for whatever green steel it wants (or is told it HAS to use).

says 66% for Stage 1 (12Mtpa) rising to 67.5% for Stage 2 (+18 Mtpa). I think this has to do with the move between hematite and magnetite, but amongst the many, many things I'm not is a geologist.

I'm pretty certain there's been something since cranking quality up (a revised FFS ?), but can't locate atm.

If anybody can, that would be welcome!
