Fordum It could be that Tufan and most business leaders are fuming because Reeves today has announced big increases to employers costs which have to paid for. The question will be who exactly pays for all the increases in insurance: maybe the workforce by being paid less, reduce the workforce and increase the workload of those remaining, not taking on new employees, transfer the costs to the service or SMR product you provide, less investment in business, and so on. The 'working people' that Reeves pretends she wants to cushion from more tax will end up paying for the increases maybe by being made redundant.

I believe the NHS has about 1.5 billion employees, so their total increase in employer insurance costs will be massive.

Reeves has today done no favours to working people or anyone in UK in the short term or long term.

AchillesZeno your point about, 'Taxes help Net Zero !!!' is a good sales pitch and I am sure Rachel Reeves will use links like this to sell the higher taxes she promotes tomorrow.

So I guess Reeves will announce this tomorrow, sadly they split the task of building the SMRs into 2 partners. The government still have not decided the winners of their competition. Maybe by the end of the year they will decide!

Building SMRs is only really profitable and attractive to RR. if the contract involves several SMRs. rather than just building a prototype.

Yes Badland, ''Looks like Miliband may miss the bus'' he certainly has in many respects. It is rather sad that Rolls Royce has not already been given the go ahead to build their first SMR in UK. It now looks as their first contract to build SMR will be in the Czech Republic starting next year. It is amazing that Labour Leadership spend so much time on unimportant issues penny pinching attaching pensioners on Winter Fuel and Bus Fares when on big issues we hear so little about. I am not surprised that Tufan gives Reeves an earful because she is blatantly attacking all businesses rather than supporting the wealth creators. Rolls Royce may indeed one day, move their main listing from London to the Nasdaq. Tufan will find out tomorrow just how 'supportive and friendly' the new UK government is to RR. , sadly I think he may have already worked that out.

To 'fulfil up to 3GW of electricity' this would probably entail building between 7 and 10 SMR individual units. It will be interesting to see if the UK match this number of SMRs when they finally decide the path they want to take.

Great observation AchillesZeno, I missed that substantial rise in volume on Rycey.

On the the home front RR. had another 2 big midday trades for 30 million each at the open price of 558.40. These trades mirrored the similar big trades at midday on Friday. It will be interesting if this positive pattern continues tomorrow.

CEZ, Rolls-Royce to sign cooperation deal for SMRs on Tuesday

Prague, Oct 23 (CTK) - Semi-state energy company CEZ will sign a deal on strategic cooperation with Rolls-Royce SMR regarding the development of small modular reactors (SMR) in the Kramar Villa, the official residence of Czech prime ministers, on next Tuesday, the Government Office told CTK today.

This is a very positive partnership for RR. and will be beneficial on many fronts, not least selling SMRs across Europe and beyond. Maybe even prompting UK Government to switch into a higher gear to support RR.

Thanks AchillesZeno for your post. The article is a good read and provides a good overview of SMRs. The reference to the link with 'steel industry' caught my eye because of our home steel industry especially Port Talbot. If a SMR is built on Anglesey then this may end up providing electricity for the proposed future steel plant in Port Talbot.

It would be helpful if London South East (LSE) team 'updated' the current RR. Financial Diary and included the 'Trading Update date of 7 November 2024' which is clearly stated on the RR. website. This could be very significant in view of all the other US events happening at the same time. At the same time maybe LSE could remove the 'driiling report' reference, maybe helpful for BP but not RR.

Eusebius: the Czech Republic plan time frame 'could be' for the their first SMR to be in the first half of 2030s. Once the contracts are signed (soon I hope) and the building of SMRs starts then income starts for RR. We have reached decision time for the UK government on whether they want SMRs or not, if they still want to dither and set up more competitions, committees and obstacles, then RR. will look elsewhere to get a return on their investment they have already made in SMR development. I guess RR. leadership and management are already frustrated with the 'painfully slow' path they expect companies to follow while the UK government decide.

Eusebius I guess RR. has deeper strategic reasons than simply need for working capital. RR. has taken the positive move to invest in SMR infrasructure in UK to get ready to build SMRs but the UK government has yet to make a real commitment to supporting RR. with a firm order. So it is perfectly sound for RR. to work with CEZ and the Czech Republic who are making strong commitments with RR. Indeed I believe other partnerships will be made by RR with other countries which need to viewed as postive and productive.

CWWX you might have been looking at Google because they are currently showing 552.00 for RR.

CWWX 552.00 was the opening price of RR. on Friday but the closing auction price on Friday was the UT 556.2 as Farnorth4 correctly states 'at the the top'. It does not matter what any other brokerage or even London Stock gives, the RR. price is the closing auction price.

552 was interesting for other reasons on Friday because of the 2 big trades at this price around midday.

Thanks Mystic: Just read the source article which is great news for RR. The timing of the signing ceremony with their Prime Minister next Tuesday and the venue the Krama Villa is very significant, giving building SMRs a very high profile. So the Czech government has given 100% backing to RR. and getting on with making it happen. Great news and it will be interesting how this is reported by RR. by RNS or on their website. The CEZ company and their government see this development on a global scale rather than limited to just their homeland electicity production. So this development has the real potential to be scaled up and highly profitable in the long term.
