The so called Brexit deal means that we are just a small to average country stuck out in the north atlantic with no particular merit or natural resources. I advise any young person of talent to emigrate to better climes before the ERG dinosaurs make things even worse.This morning's performances of LLOY and the £ are merely reflecting the truth which the dinosaurs are unable to comprehend.

Feel I have just got to add one more post: We have today a perfect demonstration of just how stupid the average investor (and I include so called fund managers) really is. Covid and Brexit is never going to seriously affect the amount of business DLG does if your thinking is correct and yet only a short while ago the effect of the stupidity I am talking about resulted in a 17% lower SP than where we are today.

Nothing unusual, this is a common part of their business these days although perhaps slightly larger than normal. Probably obtained a fat fee for taking it on.

....and with the number of trades having rocketed during lockdowns this year, someone must have made a nice pile of cash.

Not costly for me but then I don't invest to sell in the following week/whatever. I invest to get a decent divdend and maintain the purchasing power of my cash. LGEN seems to be doing that for me and thus a silly temporary fall in the SP is of no consequence.

Don't believe that lower GWP will matter very much against much lower claims due to covid curtailing miles driven by the average punter (except one or two going to Barnards Castle of course). I am expecting another fat divi in the next few months.

Quite correct Jatw and you can bet your boots that L & G will have made sure that they are well covered at the buy in. The interesting bit as I mentioned earlier thsi year is to what extent they might benefit as a result of pension payments ceasing due to covid deaths although despite all the media noise the actual deaths so far are still a very small fraction of the total population. Oddly enough as the operational accountant of a medium sized pensions scheme for many years, when I did my best, I have now finished up with my DB pension being paid by an insurance co, LOL; not L & G however.

Yes I know, read about it when doing my economics studies many years ago but it never really made sense to me because cash only gives one advantage - when one is about to buy something expensive like a new car for instance. If you are not about to do anything like that best to have the cash tied into something which is giving an income unless one is a big time trader which most of us are not.

How can one feel "more comfortable out", I do not understand. One is sitting on a pile of cash which is doing nothing except a slow decline in value due to inflation. Surely one must find another useful hole to put said cash into even if it is just filling up the freezer.......Personally I will be putting my next £2k which will soon become available into a dividend business - maybe LGEN?

One doesn't see many yields like this from a share of this quality and neither covid nor Bojo's idiotic behaviour will make much difference. No I did not vote for him, got more sense.

I don't understand hoops, are you saying that you trade on Halifax (for some unnkown reason) and yet you write on here where you can trade for £9.95 pretty well faultlessly in my expereince.

Quite right Reee after many years of observation I have concluded that the average investor is fairly stupid and rarely makes any serious money; I include the "fool" in this commentary. I believe that it is because they use emotional rather than logical thinking and read largely useless newspapers such as the Daily Mail. Just think about it, if the hack scribbling in your newspaper was any good he would not be writing at all but relaxing on a Caribbean island somewhere.

Irrelevant to DLG Trouty most of their business is in UK where they continue to do well and pay fat divi's. All the brokers also reckon they are too cheap - why? Because covid is also irrelevant, people still need car insurance,etc.

Yes barchid, the chairman said the share split was to make investment a bit easier for the small investor and as far as I and my son are concerned that has been achieved with both of us coming in with a few bob. We also noticed the steadily improving revenue, profit and dividend over the past few years; what's not to like.

Quite right WM but there is always the odd wally scribbling on here.

Some people are obviously incapable of reading graphs or making sensible invetstment decisions, the SP was well over 300 before the panicdemic got going.

Can't help wondering where else you can get a safe 7.5 percent return??
