JB letters increased last year. We delivered in the region of 20-25 letters to every parcel.

Only ones betraying the British public are the CEO and board. They are the ones prioritising parcels over very important letters from hospitals, doctors, solicitors and occasion cards from family, not the posties and this is being communicated with the customers everytime they complain. So like previous industrial action the public won't turn on the posties. According to the CEO and his board we are a parcel company which clearly we aren't.
As a shareholder who in their right mind would want agency workers on higher wages than staff already employed plus the amount the agency I paid on top.
As for all these staff coming in from abroad. It must be those boats coming from France. They best change them from dingies to Cruise ships because last years full total will barely cover 1/10th of Royal Mail staff let alone all the other businesses. Laughable

So are you saying that postman should be paid more because they are paid less than alot of far less physical jobs and there working conditions are worse?

Hard working NHS staff. Your having a laugh. Can't see a Dr, patients neglected in hospitals because visitors are limited to 2 people for 1 hour a day . The majority sit on there arses all day long eating cake or standing around the desk. The only ones thar really work are ICU and A and E and the cleaners . Peakybender has been watching to many documentaries.

Angersharkz nobody has actually said 10%. The only mention of 10% was a quip that by the time Royal Mail are really ready to talk inflation will be 10%. The only 2 definite things we know , is that when talks started the CWU asked for just over 5% with no strings whilst Royal Mail board offered 2% with strings plus add ons which amounted in real terms to a pay freeze for some and a pay cut for the majority plus poorer working conditions.
Some of you seem to think that us posties are all Raving Commies looking for the next revolution, when in reality most of us wouldn't vote Labour . The majority of members don't even pay the political levy . 68% of posties are shareholders with over 50% buying more every month.
Many posties have worked in other industries, many have university education. Many are ex sportsman and women. Loads do community work and charity work.
The workforce isn't stupid, they also aren't mugs. The workforce all along has said they would be happy with 5% no strings, which is still a pay cut and another look at the situation next year, because we all know the world is unpredictable at the moment.
If the CWU demand too much then obviously its members would just cross the picket line. If the CWU ask for 10% and it goes to ballot the members would reject a strike.
The more worry fact is the company is being led by a completely useless board that is making one major **** up after another and the posties on the front line are the ones taking the flack from the public due to being understaffed, poor senior management priorities.
The posties and Delivery Office managers can't all be wrong.

Makes me laugh on here. Going on about the union hoodwinking the workers. Only a clown would settle for a pay cut and extra work , which is what is being offered at the moment. Do you really think many of us are bothered if we lose our jobs. Posties are already leaving in droves. 2% will just increase that and leave Royal Mail as a company that can no longer function, a situation it is already getting closer to by the day.

No idea where your getting your figures for parcels. Ours are up 8% on this time last year and those figures last year included covid test which are now non existent. Our premium product of special delivery are also up 7 %.
As far as I know , you only need to post a certain amount as a business customer if you get a collection free otherwise you pay for it. Those that don't get it free can either pay or drop it off at a post office or delivery office, which at my office numerous drop off.

I've seen many companies leave Royal Mail over the years. Always due to cost. Problem these days is when they go to the competitors with larger orders they have to sign exclusivity contracts or promise to put a certain volume through the business. These contracts usually last for at least 2 or 3 years.
When Royal Mail sales managers go to these same companies a year later they get told they would love to come back to Royal Mail as its been a shambles but they will have to pay huge amounts to get out of the contracts they signed. Let's just say the grass isn't usually greener.

Unfortunately the reason we are working is because our lovely board of directors didn't think its workforce deserved the day , so didn't ask for permission to break the USO service for the day.

The majority of delivery staff are now part time. The original conversation was about lack of staff, being unable to attract staff and why so many deliveries are failing. My answer was that £300 a week gross is not enough to attract staff. If you work out the free work that many do every day putting together d2ds at home and arriving early or leaving slightly late by doing managers favours it probably works out at about 300 for a 29'30 hour week. Add on the 12-15 miles a day slog come rain or shine and it doesn't look appealing. Hence the reason most new starters leave within 2 months.

Not sure how many more times it needs putting on here . New starters and the majority of part timers are on 25 hours per week . So about £300. That includes the d2d payment that many of them spend time at home putting together in their own time.

Red CEO, how do you propose a more efficient delivery operation? Maybe we could try the the Royal Mail board / CEO way.
That is less staff, so only deliver Specials, Tracked and signed for items and if you have time deliver some letters, rotating which area of letters you deliver each day, hopefully delivering to each house every 3 days.
End result. £50 million fine. People have been warning on here, that we were heading for that situation since December because we weren't meeting obligations of the licence.
Not sure what bonuses you are talking about for new starters. I guess you mean the £16 d2d payment that many of them sit at home putting together in there own time because they are already working all there hours at work.
Like I said , large numbers of jobs can't be filled , so why would a 2% pay rise for someone on £300 make todays workers want to join Royal Mail. All it will do is make more leave.
If shareholders and that includes me, want someone to blame , then take a long hard look at Simon Thompson and his clueless board. They have made one disastrous decision after another, cancelling hire vans at Xmas, Christmas casuals on Christmas Eve , even though we had a huge backlog due to Hermes , Yodel and Amazon doing there usual Xmas dump on Royal Mail at the last minute. Shutting callers offices many to just 2 hours a day , causing large numbers of redeliveries and inconvenience to any body with a job. This also stopped large numbers of customers from being able to drop off parcels, and now use rivals as its easier. I've had numerous exchanges with Simon Thompson who at 1st seemed to want to expand the company and had us all on board , thinking at last we have a CEO that doesn't want to cut cut cut. Turns out he is a wolf in sheep's clothing and is no different to the rest. Yes he has made us more efficient in transporting and processing , but he has made us an absolute shambles in delivery and customer facing/ callers offices.

Red CEO. I think your getting mixed up with the Unions. The CWU doesn't represent the managers that are having job losses. The CWU represents the postman and Royal Mail has no plans whatsoever to makes cuts to them as there isn't enough postman to deliver all the mail at the moment. Are you really suggesting that postman should be grateful for a 2% pay rise after everything they did through the pandemic. I can guarantee you 100% Royal Mail won't back down and that a ballot will take place ; followed by a strike. Most posties would settle for 4.5 to 5 % no strings , which is in effect a 4 to 5 % pay cut compared to inflation. For that amount you would think Royal Mail would say fairs fair but they won't. Posties don't actually need to strike. A work to rule with an overtime ban would bring Royal Mail to a grinding halt. A huge number give free hours to the company every week, starting early , finishing late and doing d2ds at home for no pay. Add to that every office being short of staff and the work only being done due to overtime. Nearly all drivers are working to maximum legally permitted hours , and if they didn't the Mail wouldn't arrive at the offices.
Like I say Red Ceo, 2% pay rise will only make it even harder to recruit, as not many people can survive on £300 a week.

Like you say maximas , average over a certain time. Full timer gets 37 hours whether they do 37 or not . As a part timer if you do 25 hours for 5 weeks and 35 for 5 weeks you get 30. 7 hours cheaper. If you do 25 for 7 weeks and 26 for 3 you get 25. How many hours do you get sick even if you do 50 hours a week, answer 25. If you do 30 hours every week but get made redundant, you get paid off at 25 hours. So like I said cheaper.

The reason they only offer part time positions is it costs less. Offer 25 hours a week , know they will do more when needed. When the work drops off , cut them back to 25 again. If they work 35 hours every week and then go sick or on holiday they only have to pay them for 25. If they get paid off through injury or made redundant 25. Problem they are now having is some are happy to work 25 due to child care issues and others are leaving for full time jobs or part time jobs that pay more.

Complete garbage Katenip.8.9% of London posties were off sheltering. This was for people with illnesses like Diabetes etc or with very vulnerable family members. You had to prove the reasons why you were off, Dr notes etc and were then placed on furlough. Just over 0.5% of those than took time off to shield took the time off with NO PAY. Others that were off had covid and had to take the time off , many due to the fact that they were knocking doors collecting covid tests from positive customers with little or no PPE. So please don't come on here spouting utter ****zen.

Very much hope that GLS is counted separately. The wage demands that will have to be met at GLS will far outstrip that of Royal Mail employees. GLS workers were on far less pay due to Mr Back . Many of its drivers are now being paid or about to be paid far more than they were on. Let's just say the golden goose may not be for much longer.

Other news. Managers union are going to ballot, as talks are going nowhere.
