In my simple world: if interest rates fall say 2% - lowering div yield apirations for investors - and the solid performance momentum stays on track, then I would guess GBP 5.5-6 towards end 2024.

Thanks Getafgrip, I agree, useful article. KSA will also need to maintain a certain price range to keep their national budget hanging together. They have already warned shorters before, so let's see!! We are probably at the bottom of their range.

Ade, this is a 600+ pence share in my view. Too much momentum in general (medium/long) term for energy transition, China will eventually get their act together and then we have the juicy multiple booster from the spin-off. Just my take. Will be interesting to see what the analysts do.

On what basis Ade? I'm interested in your assessment, especially how much the new deal is worth vs 2 days ago.

Warsaw, thanks, yes, this is good for the market including Barc...if they can behave themselves. They have a nasty habit of messing things up with a scandal or two!! Hopefully, we can look forward now.

The food inflation is an interesting one. Energy costs pushed up prices without doubt. So did increased salaries, eg at supermarkets. However, it's "funny" how everybody (not directed at you Warsaw) has forgottten the war in Ukraine. Wheat is a significant basis for calory intake all over the world. Wheat prices are still highly eleveated and this has spilled over to the whole food chain including into substitutes such as rice. If you then have a bit of a bad harvest somewhere, then you have a perfect storm. Politicians would be wise to really get to grips with this issue. Noone is talking about this anymore it seems. Anyway, just my take.

YES! Different attitudes, different multiples.

Some people may speak againt it (as seen in the article), but the reality is that investors can diversify themselves through how they allocate money. Two separate businesses will be much clearer, rather than the current muddle, where many institutions stay away because of the thermal coal.

OK Ade, I am not really into Anglo American, but note it may be more oversold than Glen?! Glen jumped 3% on the news first thing, plus 2% on the inflation data; Anglo jumped 5% on the inflation data.

From that perspective disappointing, yes, but maybe there are other specific reasons in Anglo's favour, as BHP and Rio Tinto are only up 2-3 %?

Anyway, I am only in Glen and this is the main reason why I didn't sell out before (when over GBP5), as I feel this is a whole new chapter which will benefit us all immensely. Anyway, just my take. Broker updates to follow in due course no doubt.

Spikeyj, yes will be interesting to see. They may well have overpaid if seen in isolation, but I am sure they have had theirs eyes on the bigger prize (i.e. the spin off, which potentially will come with huge benefits, including getting "green" institutionals back in the metals and minerals business).

C156: I actually agree with you, but I am waiting for the announcement. Other people are clearly also being considered, otherwise it wouldn't take this long. If MA is the permanent CEO and the board remains in one piece, then I will wait for the first opp to get out with a decent gain.

It's blatently obvious the board slept while on watch and MA doesn't have CEO authority; not even close.

I also vaguely remember you talking about some big BP / Abu Dhabi deal to be revealed at COP28...sorry if I have missed something, but interested in your views. Thanks.

Probably why many broker targets are around GBP5?!

I am not a chartist...but given interest rates probably have peaked and eventvually will fall, then the yield is increasingly attractive vs interest on cash => sp WILL go up over the next 0-12 months (also given the business is doing really well). Just my take for what it is worth.

It's quite an old story. Barclays' offices were raided in Germany last year. The fraud is actually a lot more than £10bn, probably £50bn or more!

One of the witnesses said at the time: "The banks and over half a dozen others acted as short sellers, share lenders, prime brokers and buyers on the illegal deals, which were done "on an industrial scale,"

Banks will have benefited from the various deals from the extra/artificial transactions, but I personally feel they may not have known what was actually going on (at least not as corporates, although individual bankers may possibly have known). The criminals worked closely with tax lawyers to make fraudulent, duplicate claims for dividend tax refunds. That's the core gain (and hence crime), so I am relatively relaxed about it as a BARC shareholder. I don't believe Barclays have been doing such tax refund claims for their own benefit. Pretty unlikely.
