A bit of relief for the overweight this week with 18p rise and next week a build up to the strategy announcement from Boris on Monday. It must surely include a test regime for the sovereign one.

gkb47, agreed, that is why AVCT also want a CE mark to be able to sell in permissable CE mark jurisdictions. The test though is the same one whether sovereign or AVCT commercial. Validation by regulators is the biggest hurdle.

ODX test not ours but sovereign to further clarify. What with Brexit rules and standstill of government test news it is all too confusing.

ES23: It is but the S&S figures can be transferred to AVCT for the commercial roll out of the BBI/Abingdon tests. The sovereign test will give seperate S&S (already sorted) when the government feels like it. All in my opinion.
Mologic have to have the ability to roll out whatever is the best LFT. They are a top outfit as are the British when it comes to helping the world out of a fix and will not allow Mologic to sell an inferior test to Africa.

NCYT won some accolade in AIM business of the year but you only get those when you've made the city loads of it.

Quickdraw18: If corona viruses are not going away but potentially mutate to worse and are endemic like a cold then the world is going to have to get use to the affimer LFD. It detects spikes and is robust in difficult conditions. It is like washing yourself internally and unless the world gets on top of it the current powers that be will have us in permanent lockdown. PCR has not and will not cut the mustard it has failed. We do not test for a common cold because it does not debilitate but COVID 19 does to a lot. It may be we lose the battle or maybe some humans will develop genes that can resist it and those are also possible scenarios.

beinthelead-I am sure AVCT will quickly engineer a binding reagent for new variants if necessary but what you quote is for a pcr test which have never used the spike protein as a target even though that is the only way to steal a lead on spread and affimers use the spike to be the best.

They are only freezing positive samples. Another of my beefs is these positives samples will be indicated by pcr so the spikes will not be evident anyway.

Spikes are only designed to attach to a target and have not got the wetness required but go dry and will break off and/or be damaged when thawed therefore not be available for the affiner to bind requiring a decent site to mesh with. I am no boffin but just making simple explanation for why regulators using frozen samples are not getting good results cf pcrs. I have read no scientific criticism to explain the LFT not being validated or reasons for it yet it is evidently a very good test in the lab.

Apart from convincing D Cummings and the PM that he had something special with affimers and was based up North where the gov need to stay on side and then when regulators seem to be passing useless tests and wasting public money had the government actively moving mountains for him Ndn71.

Children can't gargle very well sometimes so may miss a crucial spreader. It might dilute a specmen aswell but it was discussed on here with a saline solution being mentioned to minimize the effect of contaminants. Anyway I think the affimers are good enough whatever method is used. Instructions re time since last food/drink might be helpful to minimize a messy saliva.

jdt1990, I agree that you can't blame AVCT. The antibody and pcr tests stole a march and the manufacturing capacity was taken. Vested interest and inertia as the industry creamed it stalled the antigen/affimer progress and without a push from Boris the way out of the pandemic would still be blocked. The consortium was necessary and the regulators now specifying our type of test. All they need to do is show some intelligence in the validation procedure.

Sorry that was a bit crazy as the LFT will will result in close contacts being T&Ted but if mass test is in place everyone will be getting tested anyway and I am sure if you test +ve you are going to cause an immediate test of those who know you. T&T still seems irrelevant.

Infinis; the government driven mass test has to be mass in order to be effective and open up business. It could be they would never have rolled out tests without vaccine drive at the same time. It is more a case of the LFT being the insurance rather than the jab and even if infection plummets test and isolate will remain as insurance while there is potential for another wave. Track and trace is superfluous when you need regular mass testing to keep open, waste of money, you track down a contact but in the meantime he/she will have had 3 LFTs I should imagine (since original contact-likely to have been at least 7 days when the infected was most infectious).

saliva is disadvantaged in my opinion by the use of frozen samples. The nucleoprotein will come through freezing while the spike protein will not so the positive samples are flawed and validation in an EU hospital might get round this . My hope is validation and quick rollout by Mologic and testing in Africa will bring the excellent data AS boasts about and which at last, is fact.

The most infectious are thin on the ground. Comparing a saliva affimer LFT to others that do not attach to the spike protein is pointless for validating the affimer LFT. They might be developing version 2 but if it is only version one that will stop spread I don't see the point of version 2.

benx4 Thanks for your encouraging post. Why all the secrecy in the industry, it is not appropriate as the public need to be participants in an effective test programme and journalists such as yourself should be able to spread the word.
