The couriers didn't take away his old mattress when he'd paid? In that case I'm sure he'll use the online form and get a refund. If he got an hour's notice and that was completely out of the blue then it's another DX issue, which is indeed a problem. But having a phone number at eve to call would not actually have helped very much under the circs. He would have got a helpful eve person, after a short wait, or even a long wait, who was unable to change the situation.
I would have spent the hour stripping the old bed and getting the mattress near the door for collection. Maybe I'm too flexible!
