Hi Firex, we're undoubtedly a different company now compared to those days. I think those commutes are even pre-Sturrock (days of strategic mis-steps etc.)
Eve is now a great place to work at, apparently... So long as it keeps going

Definitely good to get different perspectives and challenge one's own thoughts. I have been swayed on Sturrock's continued pay; I just hope he gives them some value in return. Defo a question there for the next Q&A

I've heard her say she sometimes talks to customers (presumably disgruntled ones) on the phone. I think that's great! Some TP reviewers have said ('demanded') to talk to the CEO. I imagine hearing of poor deliveries first-hand puts her in a much better position when she goes to DX and tells the senior managers to pull their socks up when delivering to eve customers.

Aim, yes, promoting the company is great and I think she does that with her appearances in various places. Just has't really worked out given the economic situation. The only TP I recall her writing (I found it in a search) was her getting very cross with Addison Lee when their car failed to show up on time; she was pretty angry. She does think TP is important for eve and why not use it; She has time for snooker, and sleep :)

I can't really see us acquiring other companies unless very small ones, though new products are a place where I think we could certainly move faster, to broaden the range. It's been around 22 gifts for ages.

They did have a partnership with Dreams which failed. Negotiated by Sturrock or the last crowd? Can't recall.. That was probably a good experience for learning how not to partner a bigger player. As DFS came to eve she said that eve did well in negotiations. I'm happy with that. Let's hope they are selling lots.

'Tim Parfitt & Cheryl Calverley combined took over £300K in salaries last year' but CC is also the CMO so perhaps £300K is not bad for three roles at a plc. I don't know, I'm not looking at salaries of similar companies. Just putting up an alternative view.

If it were not for Putin we'd probably be a lot closer to profit, if not already there. I'm going to hold back from being too critical of the people at eve when they seem to me to be navigating the problems as well as most, if not better than most, in what is a competitive market.

I'm also not sure I'd have so many shares (average 3.7p approx) if I had the options the management have. I'd probably spread my risk.

Hi Wress, I’ve ticked a few of your posts elsewhere as the bullies don’t like an alternative view.
When I searched for eve yesterday a flat came up as the landlord advertised it with a brand-new eve mattress as a rental ‘plus point’. He obviously thought that enough people had heard of eve, and thought highly of them, for it to be worth mentioning.

CC has criticised (and had her complaint upheld) other sellers who've cheated at their 'sales'. She must do it properly now or they will do the same to her which wouldn't be a help atm.

You can buy one from argos for £60 today. In a month she can drop the price and say it's on sale. Maybe it will go to less than £60.

On eBay today you can buy them off eve for £39, new, and for less if you buy more than one. They are good pillows and 'sale price' means the price can go up again too, without looking shocking. Only CC and her team know the exact plan I guess, and they won't tell us.

I haven't been following the price of sheets. They do seem very cheap, for whatever reason, but maybe they are 60% less than a previous 'high' price, and are usually 30% off anyway, most of the time. So roughly an extra 30% off today, to get to 60% off. I'd buy some if we needed sheets.

Maybe people often buy sheets in addition to a mattress, or buy sheets alone, then buy a mattress 'cos they like the sheets. My point is *I just don't know* and CC probably does (even if, heaven forbid, they just have too many sheets and need to shift them fast). Maybe CC is desperate for cash and selling sheets at little more than cost are a way to convert stock to cash. I'm just guessing.

I have no choice but to believe in CC or sell my shares...

In a couple of minutes searching it was hard to discover how Tapi Carpets are doing now (run by James Sturrock, former eve CEO, and still non-executive board member at eve) but found this from last year:

Tapi expects revenues to exceed £100m for the full year, up from £97m in 2019, and to report its maiden EBITDA profit of £1m.

This is a major improvement for the business, which recorded losses of £10.2m in 2019.

I assume his interests are aligned with eve shareholders and he'll do well personally if the sp rises. He brought CC into eve.

Probably temporary rise and then in a sale.

Looking at the chart, in 2020 Feb, we were hovering around 1.25p and as low as 0.82p (brief 'spike' up to 1.7p) and that was with... approx £8.3m in the bank..

So, with probably less than half the cash in the bank now, we are 30% higher. I do think the market view is a little less bleak than pre-pandemic. Obviously that could change quickly, and either way, depending on news.

If you believe sales are reflected in tp review numbers we are well down on direct sales from the eve site, but could be compensated to some extent by DFS. Eve spent a lot on making the French advert more than a year ago (model-makers etc) so that will have dropped out of the costs, and the new Channel 4 sponsorship was probably less expensive to film as the basic idea already existed.

We always knew that sales would dip once the shops opened after the pandemic but that eve would be a lot further on, thanks to the acceleration of online retailing. What wasn’t predicted in any way was Putin invading Ukraine, and the huge hike in the cost of living. Nevertheless, eve are still better placed than before the pandemic – so long as they can weather the current storm and then still come out fighting.

As for marketing and pricing policy / discounts, our CEO should know all about that as her background is marketing.

I’m following Argos. Monitoring began roughly around the time similar web updates so only around two weeks in. They sell more sleep away mattresses than anything else but still only in the single figures of sales in two weeks. Then its pillows, and finally mattresses – and that’s only if my ’system’ works. They are not selling a lot but Argos is only one channel of several (Next; Dunelm Olivier DesF etc).

If they have cut costs and marketing spend, as the initial investment in marketing is the least efficient marketing, then there could be a silver lining of sorts.
