Can was about to write more or less the same, but busy with family. Until Putin made the cost of living crisis a whole lot worse, we were heading to profit under CC. Not as quick as we wanted (or been told last year) but we'd have been ok.

If Putin had told CC of his plans maybe CC wouldn't have spent on the French advert (which is showing signs of working, just not going to save the situation).

Take your point wyn but I'm not sure on your analogy this time. In our area, one estate agent has bought 4 of the other agents but kept them trading in their original names. Not everyone know this. In fact, you only have a choice of two agents when it looks like there are 6. Some people say "I would never sell with X; they are dreadful. I much prefer Y" (when in fact X owns Y).

So in your case, someone buys a Seat. VW would say "they didn't buy a Ford, they just didn't know they bought VW".

I would rather buy a branded cycle than an 'own label'. I might go to Halfords ... and buy a Carrera. Same things

Would a DFS customer like a DFS mattress or an eve? If Emma buy eve sleep plc that's bad news for Simba. Faced with an equal choice of three brands, on average 'Emma' would sell 2 for every 1 that Simba sell.

Eve does appeal to women more than men apparently, and more men go for Simba. So Maybe simba should buy eve and get both male and female buyers (but Simba are probably tightening the reins too atm).

They only announced the sale yesterday. Even if buyers began to think about it from 7.01am Monday, they will need time to negotiate. In the meantime eve need to stay cool headed, imo.

As for brand I do think eve is more Nike than Debenhams or Woolworth. Their demographic audience is the young and middle aged online market. The older folk are actually the ones with the money so shouldn't be ignored.

I guess that is their advantage. If there were two potential buyers, that would be to our advantage.

Could have bought a very nice car for the amount I am down. I remember Mrs Geeman saying 'sell everything' on CBD day when the price was 6p at that moment. Hindsight... I thought that meant there was a takeover brewing then.

As an amateur reading the RNS it seems negotiations are kept quiet till the shareholders get to vote on any proposal. Could be wrong though. It will be people such as Octopus who decide rather than us.
Maybe someone who wants the company would buy a few first on the open market? Better price and stack the vote..

I try to keep positive, and hope not unreasonably. After all we were 0.9p and then lockdown lead to increased sales that no one was expecting. It could go either way, like an eBay sale. What if someone at Ikea suddenly became interested. We used to have an Ikea mattress and it was terrible. Our eve is 100's of times better.

Hopefully there will be a spike; I do need to de-risk here. Eve does seem to be a tight ship as there was nothing unusual about trading before the news. All the very best, D

The eve 'sale' is certainly getting lots of publicity. Not great for potential customers to read (thinking about their warranties) but there can't be a potential buyer out there who hasn't heard of it. New mattress manufacturers come to the market with regularity. There must be a lot of mark-up / profit per foam mattress (IF you can sell them without spending all the profit on google) otherwise no one would bother. Someone buying eve now has had most of the heavy lifting (brand awareness; Which? awards) done for them. Who would start from scratch with a mattress brand, go through all the pain, when they could just buy eve.

Trouble with Simba (if was like last time) was that they froze the eve shares (RTO) for three or four months and we couldn't trade. Maybe CC would ensure that doesn't happen if they bid?

We've all been after a take over for a long time. Shame we are not in a position of greater strength but it will have to do.

I don't think that's an option dontgive.

Our best hope (IMO) is something like... DFS and ... John Lewis ... slugging it out for eve! We can always Dream, 'cept it won't be Dreams as they have their own mattress in a box brand (which doesn't have Which? awards, and customers are impressed by Which? as we know).

We bought the Eve original hybrid after sleeping on an Emma hybrid for the past few months (we bought a bigger bed hence the change). I can honestly say this is the best mattress I've ever owned. A lot of reviews have commented on it being firm, however I've personally found the top later is slightly softer and more comfortable than the Emma, which was VERY firm. I much prefer the Eve as you sink in ever so slightly, but it's still very supportive of my dodgy back and sciatica. Cannot reccomend it enough' – TP

Would they make the staff redundant? Ironically there seems to be a shortage of staff at the moment so DFS is probably big enough to find space for and extra 50 people. Or the people might opt to find things by themselves.

Anyway, fingers crossed we get some spikes in the not-too-distant future to save our losses a bit. And dig for helium elsewhere.

Wyn, I admit to scratching around to find positives, but here's one, that they are not doing quite as badly as many others. I've turned this around for emphasis: 'eve’s direct to consumer sales orders in the UK&I are down 15% and down 3% in France' so 'eve continues to outperform a market which is estimated for the first four months of 2022 to be down 29% year-on-year in the UK (source: IMRG Capgemini) and down 37% year-on-year in France (source: FEVAD).'

So someone like DFS could buy the company for not-much-more than a couple (or three) decent sized house in a London street and run it themselves (just keep ordering from the existing contractors and quote the Which? Best buy awards in their advertising) sell through Argos and Olivier DesForges and wait for recovery, whilst not making much of a loss / possibly a small profit.

I admit is looking tough isn't it..

I need a couple of miracles 'elsewhere' to make up for this.
