Danielh, I very much understand your situation. My average also is high and down c 65% !! However, as part of a large portfolio with other shares holding high gains as well as the high div in VOD, I feel lots of patience is required. M & S have recently bounced back after many years at low levels. RR, IAG, BA., BAB and many others struggle for years and then recover. VOD has been badly managed for years, there's a new CEO who is aiding its recovery by selling off bits to pay down debt and improving focus. Their Merger in progress should also cut costs along with expected cuts in interest from 2024. VOD has many positives which aren't yet being fully optimised.

Shaun_LSE, take Simply Wall Street with a pinch of salt. They are mostly an AI-generated publisher without much if any human oversight. Cayman islands companies increased their holdings from c 9% to c 10% last week. BATS are a great income source and will recover in time to near 3000p at least in my humble view. They have their challenges, but are aware of them and taking appropriate action. The £25b write down was overdue anyway and much of it was already within the sp. Don't understand the drop today. All IMO and DYOR.

So Jax05 you forecast a minimum drop in sp by 7.5p per £1bn forecast damages (ie (£18.75b / £2b ) x 69.25p) !! They may not have overcharged of course, time will tell.

Tbh, I can't believe, and please don't say I'm naive, that aware members of relevant Accounts Depts at all levels would support / enable accepting payment for services on such a scale. My background is Accounting and there are good business ethics attached to such roles and I'd refuse point blank to engage in such dishonest behaviour if confronted by it. I know that Business next to Politics can be very dishonest, but Vodafone is a large conglomerate and I'm very sceptical that the practice of knowingly overbilling was allowed to go on given the numbers of employees and managers that would have to be complicit in it. The ex-CEO and any others who are relevant ex-employees also need to be punished if this is true.

Seen_it, sounds exhausting !! Just be aware of too much churning, did it many years ago and would have gained more by simply holding for longer periods, and there are CGT rules re buying and selling within 30 days and treatment of losses if any !!

I'm holding here for income but will sell if it gets to maybe 575p.

Rylidan, whether the shares of Oil and Gas cos., Tobacco, Aerospace and other so-called 'sin' cos are traded won't stop them operating. Indeed, if their share prices completely collapsed they would be taken private and there'd be even less reporting requirements and transparency !!

What I find ironic is that there is never any discussion on the possibility that maybe, just maybe !!, living in the next life, or a life other than on planet Earth, after the destruction of Earth, could be actually better than living on Earth !! Ianfm, unfortunately Brokers like JPM play on investors' lack of confidence in themselves and feelings of insecurity. Fighting the perceived expert views takes a certain confidence and courage. Even within JPM I'm sure that there are analysts who feel uncomfortable / refuse to follow a corrupt corporate culture. Look at society today and the large flocks of insecure sheep who follow the sayings, mainly online, of their admired god-like influencers and then end up on the streets protesting about anything their 'gods' command, eg Climate Eco activists, LGBTQ+, BLM, Palestine/Gaza, etc...

Totally agree RonR. I also have RR shares and remember their attempted fraud well. JPM have tried this corruption with other shares also with varying degrees of success. Their about turn on RR was forced due to their lack of success in pulling the sp down by much - they now have a 400p target on RR v their attempted 90p initial target !! Is it that they are too big and powerful to be investigated as I find it hard to believe that their analysts are so stupid. Bots also would be the ones to materially move a price when there's a material downgrade/upgrade and probably not able to distinguish a rogue firm from a less dishonest one. A statement yesterday from a travel authority said that 2024 would ne a record year, also price of fuel is falling. These are just my thoughts and DYOR, but JPMorgan are definitely spinning a very negative criminal image in my view.

Most relevant for me of what he said was that the £25b impairment is a reduction of the Intangible Assets which were way overstated anyway amd due a cut !!

Peakybinder, anyone who buys cheapy cheapy products of China is taking even more risk with their health than the vapes !! BATS is known for good quality and that's why their products have low price elasticity.

Dotlink, sounds logical what you say, but stock markets are not always logical. The £25b write down is a paper transaction and, along with a stated change in strategy, is being done to pre-empt higher future anti-cigarette regulation, thus their action should be perceived as accretive to BATS value as well but unknown by how much. So not definite that BATS sp will fall by full amount to reflect the £25b.... Time will tell and I'm Holding for now and may buy more when dust has settled.
