GSK rejected ULVR an offer for HLN of c £20b higher than current value whilst probably spending a ridiculous amount on coming up with the name Haleon which has a meaning (Good health and Strength) in complete contrast to the loss of c £20b. The BOD of old GSK are the dicks if anyone is.

Neil74, what's wrong with millionaires paying more taxes than those non-millionaires ?!! Many tax regimes exclude value of one's main private residence from the calc and extra tax could start from £10m - £20m+

You could also phone them, sometimes better to at least get guidance to where the most relevant tax treatment is. I just feel that using the 18th July Closing prices, and the definition of the applicable closing prices is important, cannot be as accurate as the 18th July Opening prices because the former is effectively a full trading day after the latter and the trading day can involve changes that should not apply to a cost allocation like this. But hey, tax authorities have their own way of doing things !!

Thanks MrMath but I think the Opening 18/07/2022 LSE mid-market prices are used rather than the Closing 15/07/2022 ones, can be different, but need to check. Also, different tax regimes can have slightly different treatments, eg UK, USA, Eire, etc..., and for large demergers the tax authority may provide the actual share prices to use.

It's a pull between possible recession lower oil demand, supply/capacity shortage, both affected by Russia actions and sanctions, China demand, effectiveness of Biden et al call for capped Russian oil prices and increased oil production, USD strength, etc... Winter will materially increase demand for home heating, uncertain re the other variables. I've sold and bought back a few times and now concur with GS, Barclays, JPMorgan and other oil bulls.

stoodio, and poo could hit levels well above now if Putin doesn't turn on the gas again to Germany after current repairs. A Ukraine have filed legal action against Canada for breaking the legal sanctions against Russia.....And who knows how much less oil, if less at all, will be consumed if there's a recession ??!! It's very much conjecture and CITI seem to be the main influencer here. GS, JPMorgan, Barclays are much more optimistic re Oil.

Reader61, totally disagree that current sp is considerably inflated, there is a good 15% increase left in it and that's with already announced increased defence spending. Five banks/brokerages target at least 850p up to 900p. Many countries haven't announced their increased defence spend yet and this will increase the longer Ukraine Russia conflict continues. BA. a great defensive share to have if a recession comes.

turfmoor, well done, as long as you do buy back at a lower price you've timed things well !! What confuses me is that this split and even some extra detail has been known for a long time - why this selling out now as GSK and Haleon are in sectors defensive during any possible recession and also the sum of each should exceed Total unsplit Value surely ?
