Yes, the current Grid Price system is by no means perfect. SSE produces Electricity for a certain cost per kilowatt, Another produces for a different cost per kilowatt. Ideally, each utility company should be able to offer their electricity at their own price just like most other businesses. However, utility cos are based in specific areas and those living there would have limited, if any, competition to choose from. Presumably that's why the Grid system was set up so that the average cost going into the grid would be used by utility cos to bill out their electricity, etc... ?? One option for consumers is to install Solar Panels, Wind Energy devices, etc.... and then sell unused units back to the grid, though not everyone can do this. Another option is to minimise use of electricity and gas by eating more cold meals, streamlining necessary cooking, turning off any lights and devices not needed to be on, staggering heating times, etc...

The latter is most relevant because any case the plaintiffs have is linked to the increase in this 'probable' cancer causing NDMA substance over time. Most people take their prescribed drugs fairly timely and most pharmacies don't stock drugs for very long, as they lose effectiveness, so this is another factor favouring GSK. Levels of plaintiff intelligence are also relevant re taking personal responsibility.
Sorry for labouring this, but these situations really annoy me as are fundamentally immoral, adverse effects from drugs like Thalidomide in late 1950's are a completely different matter where a drug company cut corners and the current regulatory controls were not there. Anything we do has its risks and we need to accept some responsibility for whay we do.

There are many many foods and parts of living that are probable carcinogens if consumed above a certain level and proving that Zantac specifically has caused a cancer is the onus on plaintiffs here and not too easy a task. How many actually have a cancer as proved caused by Zantac ? The lives of each plaintiff will be scrutinised, eg do they smoke, do they have extra stress / have they any mental neuroses, do they take illegal drugs, have they worked with asbestos, etc.. any of which would contribute to a cancer (if they have one). When GSK win they may have their legal costs awarded to the plaintiffs. When latter first cases fail, the No Win No Fee lawyers will quickly tell their clients that they'll have to cough up some dough and many will then walk away. I think GSK should fight this to the death even though I own a significant stake. Both USFDA and EMA have found no probable link to cancer and the two should also be held liable because they are the orgs meant to protect the consumer. There is also Caveat Emptor and buyers have to take some responsibility for what they consume, eg I myself very diligently assessed the risks of taking a specific Covid vaccine and take full responsibility for any consequences therefrom. Many of you recall the signing of a form before receiving a Covid vaccine placing responsibility for taking same on yourself !! No one is forced to take pharma !!

wildtiger, the plaintiffs do not have a leg to stand on here, once first 'test' cases subside then also will the others be withdrawn. The lawyers will be the losers. There should be a mandatory even nominal levy, eg USD$1,000, for plaintiffs because that would filter out these waste of time cases.

Any compos received where it's not legitimate - forget the court ruling as not always correct - is dirty money, like blackmail / extortion.

Cancer comes from living, breathing in carbon rich air, eating foods grown after spraying with herbicides, pesticides, anyothercides !! No causal relationship to cancer found by any of the regulatory bodies using their vast depth of experts. Assuming these cases are on No Win No Fee, the lawyers must have some sort of confidence in winning though how their medical 'experts' will be able to convince a court that they are more qualified to know than the USFDA and EMA experts is very very optimistic in my view !! johnpwh, 30 day UK CGT rule only applies if you make a loss on any shares sold, eg sell 5000 GSK and make £5000 loss. If you then buy back GSK shares, eg 5000, within 30 days, the loss of £5000 is deferred to be set only against any Profit you MAY make on your new purchase of 5000. If you make no profit at all on sale of 2nd 5000, then you cannot set your £5000 Loss against any other CGT transaction. If a partial gain on 2nd 5000 then partial allocation of the £5000 original loss. Also applies to a spouse transaction in Eire so better to have different shares to spouse just in case !! This how I understand it, but DYOR !!
