Some massive buys going through now Nige - I think something may be afoot - agree btw re Netflix - these huge companies will grow by acquisition going forward, just a matter of time, maybe the results will be the catalyst - companies like to see their prey on a sound footing before they pounce

Nige - I think ITV will be bought heavily before the results on the 3rd - at the moment they are in limbo subject to the vagaries of micro and micro economics playing out - prior to results though minds will be concentrated as nobody wants to be short on good results which I think they will be - rotation is well underway from tech stocks to value stocks that pay a dividend, ITV fits both those requirements and if the results stack up I think we could be in for a rerating

Hopefully the beginning of the comeback Morgan time will tell - whatever the share price movement in the next week or so nobody should lose sight of the fact that Apollo reviewed MKS with a takeover in mind at around 240p - when fund managers are considering huge investments at this price the current price at 2 quid is a 20pct discount - which is why I added again yesterday at 196p -

Thanks AngerSharkz - noted re retail being a tough sector going forward - it is very difficult to pick winners all the time, I have been doing this for around 30 years and still get things wrong, the key is to get more right than wrong - I think with MKS their demographic combined with increasing employment should protect them going forward but companies in a fight on margins with Aldi etc could come under pressure - time will tell - I have a buy order in with ITV at 109p running for the rest of this month, I don't personally see this playing out unless there is some extreme macro/micro economic development but we will see - good luck

AngerSharkz - I hold ITV and MKS and have done since the crash in 2020 - I have been adding to both on weakness and will continue to do so as I am keeping both for at least 3 years to give time for the max return - I agree with your figures on ITV but question those on MKS - if you look at the MKS statement in Jan the forecast is for 500m plus profit not 435m - as the results are in May I find it hard to believe a company would overstate by this much with only 4 months left, secondly if you strip out lease payments MKS debt is around 1m as they paid off a substantial sum with free cash flow (leases are transient if you look at MKS lease holding in 2018 they had 4b plus, now it is around 2b with stores that have had leases closing reducing their liability which is an ongoing process) thirdly MKS forecast of 500m profit gives scope for a reintroduction of the dividend going forward which MKS themselves have already intimated at with regards to the results in May, fourthly - when companies are taken over the first thing that is looked at is their pension and if there is a deficit (this has been an issue for BT another company I also have shares in), no issue here for MKS though as they have a SURPLUS of around 800m) - personally I think MKS and ITV will eventually be taken over if their share prices continue to slide - this is all in my humble opinion of course - good luck - dyor etc

Constantly - MKS is a 3 year play for me and I have been buying them sub 1 pound upwards and will continue to do so on weakness as I said in a previous post - they are now almost 20pct below what Apollo were contemplating bidding for them in November which was around 240p - I got my last two buys wrong at 225p and 235p and I feel for Morgan atm in at 245p but it is only an issue if you have to sell - I don't and hopefully Morgan doesn't either - I agree with extracover here that the price rises to combat inflation will not hit MKS demographic as I myself alluded to in a previous post - the share drop could well be down to algos - if you sell shares of 1mill in batches of 1 pound each that is 1 million sells - markets ride on sentiment and sentiment is against MKS right now as it was against telecoms a short while ago until the big players ditched tech stocks to concentrate on value stocks that pay a dividend and actually make money now rather than in 20 years time - MKS is one of those stocks and will I believe reintroduce a dividend in May - if you look at the last results they increased market share in food and clothes - momentum is now with MKS - the market can play games for all it is worth but the games will stop in the lead up to the results in May as minds are concentrated imo

Agree with Neil here and I too am adding on weakness - when people who can afford to buy Marks food cut back they generally cut back on holidays/ going out for meals, this has happened before in inflationary times and Marks have increased market share as people order in their food from them, rather than shelling out for a restaurant meal - also with clothes, they are now pitched directly next to Hobbs, White Stuff etc on their website - they may actually increase market share here too as people reduce the amount they spend on clothes to buy a Marks jumper at say 40 quid rather than one at 100 quid from a higher end retailer - all in my humble opinion

Radioagent - no I didn't mean dazn as far as I am aware their market val is around 3b so less than ITV - the comments made by them are telling though - there is plenty of money out there looking for a home in the UK atm and particularly in UK media which puts ITV firmly in play

Deutsche Bank raising their target price to 140p from 125p and maintaining a sell order is beyond belief - not sure how the analysts there can look themselves in the mirror in the morning when they have told clients to sell at 125p then having the brass neck to tell them they are raising their price target - that takes the realms of unacceptable behaviour to a whole new level

"M&S may be the next large high street name to go" - Seriously Nige - Did you actually see MKS figures - they are increasing market share in clothes and food atm - Apollo ran a buy option on MKS at 240p - the share is over 10pct below that atm - I am no supporter of Tom and a big holder in ITV but let's have some realism here ffs -

I think 212p was the bottom EC - I note Ocado is up over 7pct this morning on a buy recommendation by Credit Suisse on the back of the new robots increasing efficiency which should maintain margins for MKS thus INCREASING their market share with regards to food deliveries - I reviewed this presentation that Chitling posted and was very impressed indeed - remember also that Ocado increasing it share price indirectly adds to the value of MKS as it holds 50pct of their UK element - gla dyor etc

I would agree this is being manipulated down - recent broker buys based on results are at 260p to 265p - we know full well that bids were being reviewed at circa 240p so at 213p that is over 10pct below that bid baseline - I will be selling nothing and adding on further weakness

I think we are on a stairway to heaven Dan - momentum now fully with telecom stocks - as said before, big rotation going on now from tech stocks promising returns in 20 years to dividend paying value stocks that actually MAKE money now - 140p is on the cards with results that stack up - let's see - moreover will this uptick in today's share price make Mikey happy!!!
