RE: SAS platform @ Oke18 Feb 2023 09:24
Hi Oke what i was think of writing isn’t that helpful, instead i though i would set out what i think is the platform and how it works, and see what you and other think.
So in my head an IT platform is the hardware and software that allows the business to run software applications that in turn run the business.
Applying that THG and then autostsore. My picture is,
THG will have a bunch of servers that host databases that store all the information collected in day to business transactions , and that is driven by an operating system such as Linux or something similar.
That OS allows THG to develop and run their applications such as Voyager , Orbit, Checkout , detect and so so on, and this will include the application that drive the Autostore robots. This all hosted in the THG cloud so providing a SaaS to the THG business.
It also incudes integrating the web front end and so it is a complete set of applications that drive the entire business, all applications are created by THG.
There will be applications/ programmes that produce all the management information that is required to guide/run the business.
So in the Autostore partnership they are offering to client of Autostore the ability to use the software developed for the THG business , probably as a cloud based service.
It means that the clients have a single company managing their AutoStore automation, rather than the current arrangement of three providers .
So in my head, the platform and the applications that are used in THG already exist and are being used successfully so are tried and tested and don't need to be developed.
There may be issues around Scaling up and onboarding new customer that will involve additional expditure as well as the normal ongoing maintenance and upgrading that occurs as the business develops.
So it's all ready to go.
