492 is back under pressure this morning. Is this going to go similarly to Tuesday when it broke down through 518?
I must say, I didn't have 490 mapped out as a support, although it's not unusual for the 90's to feature in any share drop through a 100 x price point.

Quite correct Chilting - and they are obviously dropping plenty of hints in that direction.

I don't think shorting a company is necessarily sad, Carltt, but sitting on my hands and losing money certainly would be. Shorters ultimately do us a favour by driving overpriced stocks down to basement prices. It's not their fault if we've paid too much.

I have watched the price a few times today, having cancelled a limit buy set at 490. I'm not precious abut catching the bottom and 50/50 about whether to add at around 500. The gap got filled early on but anyone looking at my chart would have seen that I obviously had 465 ish as a potential support level. I'll be interested to see if it breaks the red and, if so whether it just flattens out. https://invst.ly/-hdn1 . I prefer to add when an sp is rising with a reasonable chance of continuing.

I'm not a TA person in the proper sense Stupmy - I use simple trends and support/resistance lines - the latter are not trends but horizontal levels. There is usually an interaction between the two: a price will often move out of trend as it approaches support/resistance - a sort of gravitational pull. I find trends often have a quite well defined parallel inner track with outer limits where the price goes wider. Sometimes they form a wedge, of course. Pitchforks are too fixed in width to be useful for me, although I think they can help identify pivot points.

Your points about retail and over expansion in the wrong geographical areas are, indeed, red flags.
One would imagine that, given their years of experience and a strategy supposedly driven by reliable data, they would not have made the mistakes you've listed. Did the John Lewis days take them in the wrong direction with CFC locations?

Valueplay, just for context: Given your perfectly legitimate view that, broadly speaking, OCDO is overpriced because of its continued lack of profitability over many years, why do you remain interested in it? The previous session had a couple of intraday gaps that tended to balance and I’m not going to worry about them. I don’t think that the higher (484.3) gap can be overlooked though - I was dismayed by it at the time.
Good points by Chilting and Pokerchips. One thing I have learned is to never bet against professional shorters.
I don't like to see this pm's drop but I'd rather get the pain over with - and then buy a few.

I happen to be long in OCDO but there will be occasions when, like today, I anticipate a possible drop and must consider selling some or all with the intention of either exiting or buying back at a lower price. Is this any different to someone discussing a short position? FWIW I happened to agree with Stupmy's assessment (about 524) this morning, which turned out to be correct.
His critics don't seem to have offered much in the way of useful analysis or thoughts to justify a counter-argument , they simply didn't like what he had to say. I guess they can find the filter if necessary.

The badly received results were a gift to shorters, who seek to stimulate and capitalise on the market’s herd mentality. Yesterday’s sharp recovery is interesting. I did expect the sp to resume downwards to fill the gap to 484 after the ‘usual’ reversal whilst shorts closed on Thursday. Maybe that process was simply continuing and I underestimated it. I still don’t rule out a resumption down to the 465 support but it could be that, having digested the results, the market has come to a different conclusion to that of the Guardian writer and others. As indicated, I’m in no hurry to buy at the current price - the upside and downside risks and rewards are currently evenly balanced for me and I prefer situations where I feel those factors are more distinctly in my favour. I hope that's a joke Savvy? I don't think trebling is happening soon, although the Weichai deal should light some touchpaper. Breaking above 500 now (not just tapping at it) would be rather more significant than it would have been a month ago because it would include breaking the red trend that has kept a lid on it for over a year: https://invst.ly/-g1mx
