Merger with New Med has been called off. Seems activist investors/hedge funds get their way again. I have no doubt they were behind increased shorting of Tullow when we announced our proposed merger. Hold on to your shares, don't give them cheaply to these groups.

Have to buy back circa 140 m shares to get out. Barring a catastrophic RNS from Tlw, they won't get that volume at these low levels. Then can manipulate the SP lower on small volumes but that won't bring them the volume. Hold, don't give them your shares on the cheap. When sentiment turns or on positive rns re Kenya, they'll have to buy at higher and higher prices

I would guess 75% of my chat screen is green for the last few days, which suggests one or more of the shorters I have on filter(Colti,Patel,Slater,Doctor) are in full flow.

The fact the tax authorities are targeting several companies, all of whom are contesting, I suspect there will be little merit in the size of the claims. That said the uncertainty is the main issue. All this was known before today so I expect little movement in SP and we will continue to respond to oil price and any subsequent news

We should be less dismissive of reasonable contrarian views. I for one welcome input from people like Stupmy. I'm not a TA expert but as a tool it has its place in a grown up discussion. I am long and positive on Tullow but I'm not blind to the risks, we almost went to zero ffs. That said, when likes of Slater,Colti and Patel come along and are too cowardly to share their position, they're muted as their input is valueless to me.

Shorters need to buy back 130 million+ shares at some point. They can manipulate SP when volumes are low, but they can't pick up the volume they want at these prices. Only matter of time...

A pleasing 2022 outcome and a solid looking 1-3 years ahead. Interim gas sales agreement is better than no news, and the 7k boepd not included in Jubilee production so important upside there when deal is hopefully finalised in 1H. All Kenya upside still to come. SP is a joke but not expecting fireworks until shorters move on. 2023 will be the year they do

Thanks for info Auson. Nearly 10% still out on loan was a surprise, given holdings of those with over 0.5% is only 2.1%. Suggests 20+ shorters with <0.5%. Explains a lot and certainly discredits those on here suggesting shorter interest is insignificant and irrelevant to SP movements. I presume this data is behind a paywall?

Thanks for the balanced input Stumpy. As a LTH these lows are frustrating but a reality. I'm comforted by fact that SP is being moved +/-5% on normal trading volumes, suggesting MMs and algos are in control in absence of news or more positive oil price macro environment. Only major volume spike in last month was 20 million when a shorter reduced. That tells me all I need to continue to hold for news on Ghana,Kenya. Meantime the childish posters can continue to squabble over who's a ramper and who's a shorter.

Total Shorts on Tullow were around 15% at start of 2021 and are now around 4%. They had and still have a significant impact on SP movements contrary to what others may say. The direction has been down the last 18 months, but given low trading volume impact on SP, they're still relevant.
