Chinese investments are often state leveraged or co-ownership investments in major public infrastructure, or farmland. That's a little different to buying shares in foreign mining companies. But you're right that China was much quicker to see Africa's potential in the next cycle and has contributed greatly to ensuring the infrastructure is there to drive that growth.

@chablard - political stability is always something to consider, along with corruption in general and currency exchange factors, but Africa is the future and there's likely to be high risk/reward across many sectors over the next economic cycle (although I suspect the colonial view of Africa over-emphasises extraction of natural resources while overlooking growth in consumer sectors, communication and financial services etc).

@sharesaplenty - thanks, that's helpful, so there's a short term upside on the chances of the test reports and a longer term advantage on the independence from hydrocarbon extraction. Is cash likely to last long enough to realise the potential if say only one or two of the tests turn positive?

Helpful overview of medium term supply horizons. Presumably in the shorter term HE1 has some upsides though?

Just friendly advice, it might be a good move to listen more than laying into people with more experience. Good luck with the investment, consider diversifying your portfolio as you go along.

@Somewydo - I note that you were also the 'new' guy back in January when you started commenting on ARB under this name. Then you were 'new to investing' in March, and now in May.

@Somewydo - if you look at the SP over the past month it really hasn't done much at all on average. It was 184 on 21 April after recovering from the big dip (when BTC dropped through its monthly cycle) and it's wobbled up and down around that until now. If BTC does cycle up this month then it the SP might follow a few days after. It's not likely to go up (and stay up) until more and larger investors come into the market for it but I'm optimistic that will happen at some point.

@BlahBlahDoh - if you read the response again you will see that it says...

"The new facility is to replace current debt that is due to mature (so needs refinanced). *The new facility is smaller* so the remainder of the maturing debt is being paid down so *debt is reducing*."

I don't think it could be much clearer.

In Q1 of 2021 (from the initial bump on 8 January to end of April) ARB outperformed BTC by more than 20 percentage points, rising 65% compared to 42% return on BTC!

If you take it from 1 January, just before people woke up, then the Q1 return on to ARB is actually 488% compared to 100% on BTC.

Coincidentally, they were probably right. BTC is just about to go past $57k today and ARB will more than likely tip 200 GBX when we resume
