RE: Vela / SGS21 Jan 2022 16:38
I agree with all that has been said recently. It is now incumbent on the BoD to release a statement first thing Mon to clarify whether commercial discussions are ongoing (& potential timeline to conclusion i.e Q1), on hold or discontinued. Their comments on this subject from recent RNS’s include:
9 Jul - At this time, SGS and Excalibur Medicines Ltd ("EML") have begun the process of progressing commercialisation plans
9 Sept (Results Day) - SGSC will immediately start to undertake commercial discussions with potential licensees
16 Sept - We understand from SGSC that, following the successful results of the ARCADIA trial released last week, it has begun commercial discussions with potential licensees
All sounds good and let’s not forget the CIZ Royalty Agreement from 20 Sept (post results):
Cizzle Biotechnology, the UK based diagnostics developer, is pleased to announce it has executed a royalty sharing agreement with St George Street Capital ("SGSC"), the UK-based biomedical charity. As announced on 22 June 2021, Cizzle Biotechnology signed a Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU") with SGSC to grant Cizzle Biotechnology potential future royalty payments from the commercialisation of St George Street's therapeutic asset AZD1656 of up to £5 million, plus potentially further payments from the use of a companion diagnostic. The full commercial contract in relation to this has now been entered into, following the announcement on 9 September 2021 of the encouraging clinical trial results from SGSC's ARCADIA trial.
Why would they go from MOU to Execution after the results were in? Another thing, who did SGS sell the 1,1bn shares and what story were they sold on?
Although the Layperson summary didn’t read too well, there were some positive signs:
Patients treated with AZD1656 tended to be discharged from hospital slightly earlier than those treated with placebo.
Patients with low Vitamin D levels at the beginning of the study, and who were treated with AZD1656, tended to be discharged from hospital earlier than patients with low Vitamin D levels treated with placebo
There was a difference in the number deaths in patients seen between treatment groups. Whilst the majority of patients in both groups survived, fewer deaths occurred in the AZD1656 group compared to the placebo group.
So if this drug was distributed to 10m or 100m people, how many more lives could be saved?
