A lot of treading water going on - G7 meeting over next few days and a lot of iis and pis waiting to see what idiot mega policy might come out of it. EU left interest rates unchanged but big jump in US inflation [stimulus cheques anyone?] - - but market not reacting. All eyes on G7. I expect not a lot to happen. Unless a magic wand was smuggled in in the diplomatic luggage. It will probably Monday when the markets go ape shi.t based on G7 weekend news.

It is obvious that the move of Portugal direct to amber, not even pausing on a green watch list was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the holidays of people. Everybody was supposed to have been nudge theoried into being scarred off travel with additional testing costs and inconvenience. It failed and so there was swift retaliation against those who had gone on holiday or booked to go. I think bucket loads are about to hit the fan over that. Group actions against the government. As more is revealed about why the action was taken, and the lack of credible reasoning, this is going to make heads roll. This was an astonishingly aggressive act against the British people. We didn't behave as intended so the boot was put in.

Personally, I think the minsters involved should be bearing the out of pocket costs of people directly. Gove, YOU are the prime mover with your idiot nudge theory. You should be paying out of your own back pocket for this. No hiding behind government accounts.

This will be a stinker when it all comes out. Boris must reshuffle now to deflect incoming.

Next travel review date is 24th June. I expect there will be no leaks ahead of the review press release this time, as with the Portugal leak so 5pm announcements. So, if the islands are to be opened up [23 years late!] then speculators [present company excluded of course] will herd in couple of days before. Rumour mill may bring in people a day before that so I would guess the best buy-in time for the airlines connected with EU market will be Monday 21st June. The opening up dates to be FROM 1st July, perhaps extending over the month with groups of islands opening up each week. My guess.

However, looking at the ambush of cabinet last time any rational prediction might be off the table. Last time, the lockdown lobby had started briefing outside cabinet indicating they were losing the battle inside Downing St, which is a normal ploy. What seems to have happened is that situation continued into the actual cabinet meeting when Hancoc.k then ambushed the meeting [I may have the name wrong, can't be bothered to read back] with data and information not previously shown to ministers. A row ensued as the open up lobby tried to hold the position of extending the green list against an organised lockdown lobby. What the hell Boris was doing letting this happen is beyond me. It sounds like he has actually lost authority or he was very much part of the lockdown lobby. But if he was part of it, he should have had the open lobby briefed and on side, or at least muted, before the meeting. The fact that a full on ambush was required speaks volumes.

What is going to happen next time? I think with the EU is calling the shots and so the UK will be able to open up travel a bit from 1st July but there are some entrenched forces at work, Gove most likely the prime mover. Boris needs a major reshuffle and fast. It seems to me he does not have control and major industries such as our travel sector are being used as pawns in vanity game.

Reading around comment boards, I get the impression people think the UK not being included in the last US review means that Biden is holding back some big mega announcement to be made during the G7 opening up full unrestricted travel between the US and UK. Some people are seriously misreading the diplomatic position of the US. When Biden says 'the US is back', what he means is the US is back as the worlds big bully telling everybody else what to do, unlike Trump who focused more internally fixing the knackered US first. That means, the UK, EU countries, Japan and the rest are back to being US lap dogs and will be treated as such. Only if you have a Maggie as a leader are you going to be heard for the next few years. And the opportunity for deals has gone. So I do not hold out for any generous announcement, I expect to hear quite the opposite!

As the rest of the universe opens up, I have taken a large position in SSP. They had a big dip yesterday and I expect a degree of recovery as the sell off is seen as over done. Also many of their outlets are about to come back into trading although with few British customers! Looking for a cheeky 10% one-off with SSP within 3 weeks.

IAG? When. I am guessing that the 1st July will be a key date with EU opening up and next travel review from UK. SO start of last week in June, or maybe a few days earlier, will be my target to take a position for IAG. RR may bounce around a bit between then and now for the basic reason pis will have spare cash and few travel sector options given how the diary is now being settled with EU and US opening up expectations.

My reading is that the task force will be able to name a date next month. Given ramp up times required and restaffing, say 3 weeks, then you would be looking at 1st week of July for a date. The task force won't meet for a couple of weeks from now so a date in August seems most likely.
Of course, this could be a bargaining chip by the yanks. I have a horrible feeling the opening up of international travel and other policies might be linked to the EU promise to re-unite the island of Ireland [in return for not holding and in/out referendum after the UK]. Biden is a firm unit-ist and may want to see his place in history with his fingers in this pie.

Why have we been left off the latest travel regrading? Why do we need a separate task force? Why do we need a task forse at all for it? There is some serious foot dragging from the states.

I must have a look at the RR board then, I dump everything in RR as I expect their prospects to improve as the rest of the world, solar system, galaxy and known and unknown universe start up international travel. The UK remains isolated and grounded of course hence no IAG shares at the moment. The aliens are laughing at us, the aliens!

I'm afraid I will expect a sp drop on this news of an announcement. Why? Because of the time frame involved. And what's more, there is to be meetings, discussions and a most likely a whole heap of boxes to tick first. Even a date to target reopening travel won't be made until July if I am reading the stories correctly.
You might get a lucky smash and grab when the market opens, but the news basically says no open travel until August at the earliest.

The NHS app?? Are you sure? I went to download it the other day and read through the comments on the google app store. !00% 1 star for the last month at least. Massive complaints about not being able to upload a video [of yourself counting apparently] and then getting the doctors surgery to approve your app application. There are massive hoops to jump through to get the covid vacc status on the app and the security level is so high with photos and video required, most have failed to get the thing working. And then you have the 3 week to 3 month wait for your local GP hitler receptionist to confirm the details and release the information - assuming the vaccination team managed to pass the details on. And no, you can not go to your GP and ask for a paper copy direct. From what I can gather the NHS app for vaccination status is a major car crash and a huge fail.

Great if you can cash-in on this speculation, but this seems a very familiar little rise, so often seen by a pull back. A few on here even refer to this cycle for their regular buying habits. How many are aware UK was not on the list for travel restriction easing? As far as the unlocking of air travel is concerned, I think it is very unlikely until the 1st July earliest - parity with the EU. That is assuming whatever the real reason for this continued lockdown on travel is addressed within cabinet. It is becoming an indefensible position against the rest of the world, but then again all logic and common sense is gone from this debate. I'm playing safe with RR at the moment. As for IAG rise today, I genuinely think a good dose of that is people not quite understanding what the US changes actually are today and plenty of pis expecting some sort of rational level-headed thinking to suddenly happen in Downing St. I think a few people are going to be disappointed. Just look back at the foot dragging blood-out-of-a-stone history trying to get the travel sector open again.

Sorry to say I'm all out again, only in RR travel sector. I don't like the stance of the UK government wrt to opening up foreign travel, too much of a political thing so not possible to read what is going to happen. US leaves UK of its downgrading of countries as viable destinations, was that at the request of the UK government? Also against this we have a sp increasing. Without spelling out one possible scenario that indicates I am keeping out for the moment until the mist lifts a bit. Missing out on a few percent rises against large drops due to devaluation...???? Indeed those few percentage increases only have meaning if selling and buying. For those sticking out, hope it works for you. I will be more interested in what 1st July means when EU passport and free travel starts across EU. Is the UK being held back until then to be on parity with the EU? All options are up in the air whilst the cabinet is fighting cats in a bag [there is a river nearby..... just a thought.....]
