I had a few professional level internet conferences and there is nothing to replace the ability to push somebody out of the way when you're all hunched over some technical drawings. Has Qatar instructed the story be floated to gauge feedback? As an IAG shareholder, you would receive a chunk of BA shares that would technically offset any sp reduction in IAG shares. I would say BA would rocket since there is no baggage around as with IAG which holds a number of loose screws in the portfolio that may not do too well with the debt from the pandemic. I would also factor in the placing was mostly for non-BA asset funding and that the BA share was proportionately lower so the debt of the IAG group carried over should be less than a simple share out. Unless IAG try to palm off more debt onto BA during the spin off. The deal would need some extra special scrutiny.

So what value would a spun-off BA fetch? How would they break up the share ownership? What does BA mean in terms of the current IAG balance sheet? From what I can see, three is little synergy between IAG and BA, it is practically an independent concern so demerging would be very easy. I suspect the market would see it as a positive move. So is Willy dropping a leak or talking off the top of his head? What is the probability of this going ahead? I am going to say 80% probability on the basis that the asset is then being taken outside the EU proper with IAG keeping as large a share as practicable (49% perhaps) , rather a lot of assets and head offices like this have been quietly moved out of the EU to the UK. Apparently, these were supposed to be going in the opposite direction!

jtan, there is also the saving face, lockdown based on previous data so must second,thitd, fourth, fith lockdown as same response. Otherwise the argument can be made the first was in fact an error. Maybe that will be the final conclusion.

I have mentioned once or twice in the past my surprise at the silence from the environmental lobby trying to seize the agenda emerging from lockdown. There are some token statements and I have heard of some conspiracy group called something like 'the big reset'. There is the outside possibility that a hysterical sympathiser with the whole extremist eco movement is working to back peddle the scale of aviation. They don't all wear sandals and hug trees. Some real zealots are very much operating under the radar as I have found in the world of engineering. No reason to stop a small gang of eco extremists to take advantage of the pandemic situation and manipulate to serve their cause. This is one of the lower level possibilities but I note again the distinct 'apparent' lack of eco warriors overtly campaigning to stop air travel resumption.

Only ramification for IAG is to note the impact of the pandemic does result in business weakness that can ultimately lead to failure. A point the warring factions in Downing Street might want to consider. Once one of the big cards fall, the whole house will come tumbling down.

I don't hold much for TM after here debacle trying to undo a lot of Brexit and lock us back into an EU system, failing by a few votes in the house [subsequent general election result has put those political manoeuvrers on the back foot for a few years until round two].

But the issue of not allowing travel is exposed wrt to the reasons offered by the government to be a null argument - i.e. we are waiting for the eradication of covid first. It is a nonsense, I know it, you know it, she knows it and the rest of the British people know it.

The truth lies behind the doors of Downing Street with warring factions and I am absolutely certain from comments directly from people inside the village that the diktat of the EU commission is at play. Whether it is to delay the UK to be aligned to the EUs timetable or in deed to actually damage the UKs international travel sector with the plan we become dependent on EU infrastructure, or whatever other policy is at play.

There is a lot more to this and it will blow up big time in the near future. There are some bad eggs in the government basket and they need to be removed.

sorry scarlet but you made a straight statement that an update of the travel list was to take place on Monday. If you are speculating this will happen and, like me, spell out my qualification for my reasoning then fair enough. But your statement as if it was a fact had to be questioned. Some people are desperate to restore losses and prone to make irrational decisions based on such unguarded comments. You may 'want' an update on Monday, but that is somewhat different that intimating there will be one on Monday.
