Well, the boiler rooms went in to full maximum deramp mode towards the end of yesterday's session using the Merkel diktat as a leaver for a spread bet. The cumulative effect is quite small. Later today the transport minister will make an announcement in the house reviewing the travel list and arrangements. I expect a significant sp increase in the whole sector on the back of that because the countries [island groups] moved to the green list will be quick of the mark to assure holiday makers [walking cash machines] that Merkel's diktat will not be applied. It may be that freedom to roam might be restricted a little. But for some, the boring trip to some old ruined monastery to be sold some disgusting local brew being removed from the itinerary will be quite welcome. But the extent of the travel will continue to be significantly restricted as long as all the damn testing is required. It serves no useful purpose as it doesn't actually inform policy making anyway.

If the second half of July is lost for holiday makers, there will be a very heavy price paid in the industry with wide business failures and job losses. The void will be filled with EU businesses! We may find that even if everything was opened up today, it will be sabotaged anyway by the commission. What will be interesting is how the definition of 5 days being forced on UK only travellers will stand up in the courts and how it will be interpreted on the ground - hotel room, hotel, hotel complex, resort complex, village boundary, town boundary, locality, island, region???????

Rubbish. Tomorrow is when the ministers meet to consider extending the green list and review travel restrictions. The changes to be announced originally on the 24th, but recently reported to be no latter than the 29th. It is very unlikely extended green list will be kept under media radar from tomorrow. There is no 'announcement' today and the most likely scenario is not returning to lockdown but bringing some relaxation of a couple of rules forward from July 19th, possibly the need to wear masks! Those too will be discussed tomorrow but that part is highly speculative.

I believe the action is to force the government to reveal the criteria for classifying the countries under the traffic light system and explain why the likes of Malta was not green listed last time and why Portugal was not placed on a watch list. One thing is for certain, there is no complainant support for the government from the industry sector any more. Government pushed it's luck last time and now they will find cooperation from the industry very hard to come by. Meanwhile Merkel has the big wooden spoon out, trying to lock out UK from EU now the prospect of the embedded Europhiles within the UK system are not going to be able to continue to hold UK back much more. Her timing is really bad, makes it very obvious what the agenda is. Well, sod Merkel, get on a plane and walk up to a German and say "Good morning old chap".

We are social beasts and as pointed out, all the facilities required to conduct meetings at a distance existed before, yet even with the financial crash, the need for travel simple ballooned. What you are conducting now over skpye or whatever is probably what you were doing over conference calls or one to one telephone calls previously. The one potential change is that those precovid communications without video may now have a video component. It was released the other week there has only been a 10% increase in working from home during lockdown, and many of those people want to go back to the office. Not quite the great social dynamic shift some have claimed. And Qatar have reported this morning they are already 10% up on business travel compared to pre-pandemic. I suspect the world will return back to previous norms far far faster than some predict and then I expect expansion.

As far as your hydrogen aeroplane, if hydrogen was a viable alternative fuel to fossil fuels, then the oil crisis in the 1970's would have resulted in a significant research switch to have an alternative fuel. Oh wait - there was significant research and it was shown to be quite an impractical and very dangerous fuel to lug around. Hydrogen is only feasible for small catalyst style power units and even then the amount of LOX that can be carried safely is a few litres at a time.

But as long as you can pocket the hundreds of millions of research budget and keep yourself and the staff well paid, go for it. Just bear in mind that one day people will stop paying taxes to fund these research contracts. A tipping point is coming with regards to the one-way narrative on climate change. The gravy train is going to shudder to a halt in the next decade.

As humans, the need to be in close proximity is fundamental. I've never had any fear that face-to-face will return, maybe stronger, than before. I have said before, video conferencing pre-dates the internet but was never in danger of replacing face-to-face. Whatever technical restrictions video conferencing did have were removed with full accessibility with the internet and worldwide web.

There is however one fly in the ointment. The green agenda. This is a very real danger to all transport industries. Unless this climate change religion is confronted and the many scams, cons, frauds, lies and fake science properly exposed, a long term investment in something like an airline would be a very bad move, I would certainly not hold airline or travel stocks in a pension fund. Indeed a ten year divvy plan would be very risky with the degree of climate change hysteria we currently see.

It is possible the attempt to force everybody to switch to electric vehicles might be the trigger that starts questions being asked about the probity of claims and probability of any deviation in climate behaviour and indeed if such changes even exists. Short term, cash-in the best you can. Long term, if the climate extremists continue their march unopposed then the airline and travel industry can only collapse.

Tapping the Irish sovereign fund and IAG for more cash, cunning move by Air Lingus. Wonder how much IAG will hand over. Sorry but I see a little dilution on the way as Lingus will not be the only one with a cap out given the UK delay to open up.

Only go by what the yanks are saying re transatlantic travel, not by what UK or EU say. The chief medical bod is saying September at the earliest. There is nothing else emerging from the States saying otherwise. If I remember correctly I got a lot of abuse citing comments from the Whitehouse before indicating no restarting of air travel much earlier in the year. It is the same again. Yes, I think the EU will have travel first, but they will do absolutely anything to make that happen and will pay a heavy price for it. The EU is desperate to take the lead post covid so they can apply rejection pressure on the UK. It doesn't matter what damage is done and the fact the parent company is based in Spain is irrelevant. The Spanish will know this and I bet you there is a plan ready to release BA and sell it off to protect the rest of IAG from EU.

The line managers, middle management, senior and board management also want to get on a plane. So if the minions say they are downing tools, they are likely to get a nod and wink from their masters.
