Fly in the ointment is Malta rejecting the NHS app. Is this because of a technical or fraud issue and therefore the acceptance of the app EU wide will be delayed? So Malta is put on the green list, but suddenly decides it won't accept the NHS proof on the app, you have to have a letter. Takes 5 days to get the letter. Another sabotage, another idiot nudge theory to deter as many as possible from travelling yet try and look like the opportunity has been put there. What an obvious set-up. The government must think we are utter idiots if they think they can pull another cheap sabotage stunt like that. It'll be Gove again, he's into all that nudge theory crap. HE MUST GO AND NOW!

luddite, I can not understand how the Spanish can enforce the tax. The share is listed and traded in London. Applying a sales tax within the jurisdiction of English law can not be legally binding. If the Spanish decide to levy a tax of 1% on every bottle of Spanish wine, does that mean every supermarket and off licence is obliged to be a tax collector on behalf of the Spanish? And if that is so, then every nation could say it is legitimate to raise tax across the board. I think the LSE has rather let everybody down by not challenging this and getting it stopped as a matter of basic law. Now the Spanish are getting away with it, you can bet many more countries will follow suit. It needs stopping and quick. I suspect in the first place brokers laughed at it and didn't bother collecting it but, just in case this is somehow found to be legitimate [but I can not see how] then they are collecting the tax and probably holding it in a suspense account until payment is due.

Can you imagine what would happen if the UK tried to levy a sales tax on shares in UK companies listed on EU exchanges? Yeah, exactly! So what are we, the LSE, doing acting as a tax collector for the Spanish. It is ludicrous.

The EU commission is moving to block the Air Europa buy-out. I wonder whether the commission was interested in taking over the airline directly and making it Europe's 'flag carrier', something it currently doesn't have but would very much wants in order to fully complete the pretence of being a country. I've warned before that the commission is minded to force all EU craft to have the EU flag on the tail fin, i.e. IAG BA UK flag replaced. November is the reporting date but I suspect the landscape of airlines will look quite different from what it is today. With the EU sniffing around the airlines the probability of IAG spinning of BA outside the EU whilst retaining a bulk share increases rapidly. There are a lot of EU companies trying to get out. It is quite an embarrassment for the commission. IAG hasn't tried to fiddle a deal with the commission over Air Europa so far, the cat hasn't been stroked, and if there is one thing that ****es of the commission more than anything else it is not treating it like it has no importance or stature.

Well I'm in heavy with Easy J and SSP only, not in IAG just yet. As EU opens up internally and then the UK vacc passport is included, holiday destinations accepting vacced tourists, I see Easy J surging and spiking first. The noise form the US is consistent pointing to September for a resumption of travel, so not sure when to switch everything to IAG. There maybe some rights required if there is no financial help from Spain and I don't think there will be. So BA may get spun out and who knows what the valuation will bring. Bit of a hot potato at the moment with Merkel's anti-British campaign. However, whilst some countries have been spooked to close down against the UK, they must surely be asking themselves is this going to have to happen for ever y variant from here on in to the end of time? Very much the opposite of what I had anticipated yesterday. With the prospect of the amber rules being revised and a new health sec on the side of opening up travel, I expected some decent mark ups. Instead my starry eyes did not want to see the extent Merkel was continuing with her campaign against Britain. And it doesn't matter how they dress it up with a generalisation, the borders up policy is very much targeted at the UK. And I bet Merkel has been on the blower round the world getting as many as possible on side. And the reason this is becoming obvious. If Merkel did want to protect Germany form new variant delta she would have the borders up all around Germany. This crack pot idea that the EU is going to have a free movement unrestricted travel zone within the EU border is simply a non starter. The virus and it's variants are already out there and there will be new ones. Also, if Merkel was really looking to stop importing variants, has she banned all external traffic in to the EU including all road, rail, boat and plane AND that includes commercial traffic like parts for the Germany car and manufacturing industry? No chance. It is almost entirely a political move and the markets is taking it seriously. And this is just the start, expect years of this until either we give in and hand our country back to europe or europe itself breaks up. I am beginning to understand why there has been so many wars with these people to date.

Everybody is going to catch covid at some point [the flu], it is frankly unavoidable [the flu]. The UK government maybe a bit ahead of the game with this one since we were vaccing faster and earlier and the breaking of the link has been publicly declared. Unfortunately the rest of the world now needs the penny to drop. But a whole concoction of politics, face-saving, vanity, procrastination, power mongering, factionalism, religion, ideology, green 'crap', anti vax, alien invasion and zombie apocalypse means that the penny drop elsewhere is probably months off so what should be an opening up and acceptance of the reality is a botched paranoid mess. In exactly the same position Leaden, but maybe a few weeks latter than we are. This is exactly what is happening elsewhere. Nobody can run from virus unless there is total border lockdown, and as Aus and New Z discovered this means shutting out their own people trapped abroad for months on end. How are they going to stop the birds bringing it? It is a highly transmissible virus and is supposed to have been prevalent in bats to begin with.

It can't be stopped. But it is going to take maybe until Christmas it seems for the powers to face that basic fact. Meanwhile societies and individuals are going to have their worlds turned upside down.

To be honest LuckyLuciano, I would be more concerned with adverse health effects from breathing in debris from face masks further down the road. Face masks are super spreader devices and I hold it was a completely nuts policy forcing people to wear them where they could handle items such is in shops. Whether the folly of that policy will ever be admitted is in doubt as it was in essence an anti-Trump stunt retaliation by the WHO at Trump and part of the pre-election campaign to rubbish him. Lung problems will be the next health emergency to deal with (I found a large scarf and used that as I was always coughing with face masks because of the micro fibres being released).

Closing down EU to new variants, indeed closing down anywhere will not work. The variants can pop up within the closed border. The reality must start to be accepted, the virus is hear and can not be eradicated. We have to learn to live with it. The vaccination has been successful in breaking the link between covid and severe illness and death. The world needs to suck that up at some point as the damage being done locking everything down is becoming much worse than what the virus is doing. If the politics could be taken out of the equation, we could move forward. Locking out UK form EU is simply going to hurt the EU as all variants will still be imported through other routes and new variants will emerge within the EU. Gotta get real about this at some point.

Oh yes guessworx, I am well aware of the pm campaign to persuade many who post here to filter out and disregard the information and insights I post because they are often just a little too close to the bone in revealing concepts that do not fit in with the narratives some would wish this and all bb to be restricted to. I am more than aware of the extent of the campaigns pan global to delete and remove any voice that questions the climate change narrative in order to preserve all that lovely panic spending. I'm not sure you can claim to have properly predicted this. Did you say the government opening up travel would be a complete botch based on in-party political fighting and cabinet factionalism? No I don't remember you saying that. Did you say that a deliberate effort would be made to close out the UK from Europe towards the end of June despite the vaccine rollout? No, again I don't think you said that. And for international travel, did you say the Biden administration would delay opening up until the end of summer or beyond for no obvious reason? Again, no recollections. It is very easy to stay with predictions and if the market swings that way say I told you so. Get over yourself guesswork, you no more predicted the current sp or [critically] when various limits would be met than I predicted the weekends winning lottery numbers [need to check ticket thought].
