I think the thing that flummoxes me is the extreme market reaction to any “downside” news, e.g. raising cash the other day.

Carnival raised $1b at a rate lower than the rate of the loans being repaid yet tge market wiped $1b off the Capital Value with a 12%+ drop in the share price.

It was the same in September when the “market expectations” were missed by a very small margin but the sp took a huge hit down to less than £5 in the UK.

We also have some doomsayers on here (DenFos) balanced by EmeraldCarrots, perhaps.

That is probably true of all cruise lines. Carnival just happen to be the biggest. Those who lend the money would not do so if they were not confident of getting it back.

Along with UBS’ revised target of $16, I am happy, too.

I agree about fundamentals. The market seems to take CCL down at the slightest excuse, though, e.g. reaction to third quarter results was OTT.

More ships and new ones coming into use should mean +ve cash flow. Let’s hope that 4th quarter results match or exceed expectations.

We tend to do one per year - May 2023 is next on Arcadia to the Med.

The hosts on cruises tend to be very good. P & O had to catch up with Freddy O because in the past they only offered hosted bridge when there were at least 7 sea days so, tended to be the longer ones. FO did the same until this year when they introduced hosts on all cruises a week or longer. Our last was to Norway then a back to back to Portugal. Same host for both. Older guy - Gerald. Goes with Cunard and FO. Cushy number but you have to put up with being recognised everywhere on the ship and also might get some tour duties, too. Still, free holidays, what’s not to like. He’s a widower, I think, so is able to do a fair number each year.

Never too late! Google “Andrew Robson”. He’s an international level player, writes in The Times daily and offers online tuition, I think. Otherwise, I am sure there would be a club local to you looking for new members.

Beware though, it can become VERY time consuming!

Hmmm, although we have never had a problem with the BoB. Due to cross it again next May - there’s always a first time!

BTW - I have discovered Avomine anti-sea sickness or any travel motion sickness works well for me. A tad drowsy for a while but nil else. Have to avoid taking it before playing bridge……

Just as an aside, I see that one of the “shorters” has closed its position leaving just three with a total of just under 2.5% of total shares shorted.

I would hope that is good news.

We were on Arcadia in 2014 coming back from America and could not avoid the tail end of a hurricane at Force 12. Some of us were to ill to care but there were lots of stories. The Captain said that Arcadia was the ship to be on from a safety point of view as she would weather it better owing to her Azipod propulsion system.

I read somewhere that Arcadia would be in for a refit in December but cannot now find the reference…….

Glad you had a good cruise - Aurora is our second favourite behind Arcadia. But, then, they are both adults only.

Our last experience in August was similar. Lack of staff meant the Ocean Grill (Marco P-W) was closed but no great loss. Couple of missed ports owing to weather.

Anyway, the sp has held its level at CoB, for a change. Net debt is 50% of assets but plenty seem to be willing to lend cash, if at slightly high rates but fixed so costs are known.

Be interesting to see their results at end of 4th quarter (30th November). I suspect they may b3 able to raise market expectations in the next couple of weeks. That can only help.

Carnival have a written target that debt will never exceed 75% of assets. Currently, it’s around 50%. Apparently 5 new ships on order Arvia on maiden voyage from UK just before Christmas.

I think you delusion is the opposite and equal of what you express.

Look at the RNS and other info. The big cruisers are not those currently struggling with day to day outgoings. They have no mortgage and welcome higher returns on their savings. CCL debts are also on fixed rates so the budgeting is easier and they are NOT losing billions. Indeed they expect to return to profit next year - they might even manage it in the 4th quarter this year I’m told.

Live in your own little gloom world if you must but do not try and impose it on the rest of us. You may well have been right in the past but past performance is no guide to the future, as they say.

BTW, there are plenty of institutional investors willing to provide Carnival with cash, as evidence by the recent priority notes issue.

It is just a daily roller-coaster. There usually seems to be a point in the day, around US opening, when the sp loses nearly all the gains it has made here in the morning. The trend is, fortunately, upward at present.

Just got to be patient.

And that they do the same as NCL when their quarterly results come out ??

It was only delayed by two weeks, but it will have upset those who are now getting a refund instead of a maiden voyage.
