For any other travel share Elliot, I might have agreed with you, although I haven’t looked. But you can never expect CCL to behave in any way logically.
Bot, you’re beginning to sound like Betterlife. Actually, it is raining here in Bhants land and has been most of the day so far.
B
Thanks YR, helpful.
Bot, I agree. That video was interesting when it talked about even larger ships -285,000 gross tons and 7,000+ pax. Can’t even begin to imagine what that would look like. For tge American market, I guess, not here.
B
Apart from being pretty poorly written, there probably isn’t anything to disagree with.
However, why the market generally seems to dislike CCL so much is hard to fathom. 70%+ of CCL shares are held by institutions so are, I think, not traded. That’s what confuses me about volatility.

Hi Betterlife,
That sounds very black cloud-ish and deep-seated and I am very sorry to hear it.
I am sure all on here would wish to help if they can. I am sure we could find a way of communicating privately if that would be of assistance.

Afternoon all,
Just back from North Herts after a night away.
This thread has morphed a bit into a place where you can feel safe in making honest comments and I welcome that hugely. Others seem to attract some astonishingly nasty responses so I now avoid them. Long May the friendly support continue.
A propos the actual share price, I cannot complain as my average is around £7.95 so I am happy with anything above that. The recent announcements will reduce interest expense by about $30m this year and $50m in a full year. This should feed through directly to the bottom line.
Bot, you have mentioned overheads before and I see that the UK must have more than its share. Did you see the announcement about the new Queen Anne? Not only do P & O and Cunard have their management structure but sitting above that is the Carnival UK President and his entourage, the 12 year-old looking Paul Ludlow. They were all on the jolly to Italy for the handover. No expense spared, eh!?
Do we know what the actual percentage of revenue goes on staff costs?
I reckon they might be able to save another $10m without much effort.
B
I knew there was a heart of gold in there somewhere, Bot!
K, that picture made me smile - not you in a coffin but the P & O slippers and Arvia cap!
Some years ago, a work colleague asked if do him the honour of taking his funeral. My response? I said I would be delighted. Fortunately, we knew each other well enough that he took it as intended! My mum always said I only opened my mouth to change feet. Nothing changes. 😇

Funerals are never easy. You’re right Topo. Most of the time you’re going in blind, unless the Funeral Director has some insights. You’ll hear lots of clergy talking about “going into a role” and in some ways a collar helps with that. I defy any clergyperson to say that can sit entirely aloof from emotion, though. It is less difficult when leading the service but most difficult when talking to family. Can be an emotional minefield - there are times when clearly what a person needs is just a hug. Can’t do that, though, especially if alone. So, a fine line has to be trodden. I always offer to pray with folk. I think that is pretty much expected - it’s part of “the job”! Whatever people’s faith I have never been asked not to pray.
In the end, the service is for the folk left behind. Whatever is in the coffin is not the person they knew! That is often when the reality of the loss hits home.

Thanks Aangus. Appreciate that. We are on Arcadia in July doing the British Isles so we might to see some of those bits firsthand!
Topo and K, the grass at the cemetery this a.m. had just been cut so there was the fresh smell as we stood at the grave. Just something about that smell, too.😀
K, with your history in the timber business I had you down for cremation!
B
Good for you K. That must be really hard for the lady concerned in more ways than we can know.
We made friends with a couple in Scotland on the 2014 North America voyage on Arcadia and Zoom with them most weeks.
B
Morning all,
In debit to whom K? I took a funeral this morning of a lady who was 95. Big family rift which one hopes will be healed by an event such as this a.m.. Not a bit of it. One the four children staying away from, or not welcome at, the gathering afterwards. Very sad to see. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and all that.
B
Topo, you should give Iona or Arvia a try. Like you and K we preferred Arcadia or Aurora or Oceana when she was around. But we have done two trips on Iona. She is a completely different experience. We realised that rather than being transport from one port to the next, she is a destination in herself with loads to do on board. Children (our biggest anxiety) were so well taken care of.
Agree with K that you just need to avoid cabins on Deck 8 as this is the prom deck - unless you’re some kind of exhibitionist, of course - but no need to broadcast that.
