Just made it back home from Cognac in France bit of a long journey, did it this time by getting to Gatwick by train. By the time the plane took off that was nearly 10 hours, then nearly 2 hours driving the other end. France is such a big place they very lucky having so much land.
My niece is working for an estate agent and she says they are very busy with the English trying to buy and finalise the deal before next March. She told me if there is any mortgage involved then only apartments and small houses are selling. The bigger properties are not selling especially any with a gite' or bed and breakfast. There are still some bargains at the mo, one 3 storey only €9k but all the fees must be paid which is a ?
Her husband project manages work on homes but he is inundated with work. The English over there are finding it hard to find people to do the work, apparently the French turn up and put very high prices on the work.
He says he used to buy a lot of materials over here and take it back as it was that much cheaper but now they are about the same prices with the UK rising fast.
The son is just 15 and he's started work as a trainee electrician , 2 weeks on then 2 weeks school and only 5 weeks holiday all year. Does seem strange to me but would be a better system than what we got seeing kids coming out of school at 2.30
