The way this is going Pacey, DT can wait for BT dividends to pay for a BT takeover. Personally I still can’t see DT making its move with so much uncertainty. Did DT spend big in the states last year in the end on ...... (was it sprint ?) or do they have that pot of money still burning a hole in their pocket ?

Hey NDN I apologise I missed your point about the tv network. But I’m still not sure I agree. The tv and BB are of course the same network in the cable world, same cable. I recognise they might need to use BT in some cases but my understanding is virtually all on franchise connections use VM tails for voice and data. I’m not sure C&W are second I was thinking VM are the second largest national network, which is why are was arguing your point about them being local. It’s combining up To 17m premises passed soon .

Hey NDN, of course Virgin does not have the national coverage of BT & of course it uses some BT network to reach these geographical areas. However where it has network it is all interconnected across their national voice & data networks, on their way to 17m homes. So buy your own description it’s not “redundant “ cable networks is it, they provide retail speeds BT can’t match, they are moving towards 500meg plus home BB where ever Virgin services are sold. It’s also not just “local networks” either is it, as you must know for instance ntl used to own submarine cables, not to mention a nation network probably only second to BT’s. I don’t think it’s wise to underestimate how far the cable industry has come or the coverage / services / advantage they have.

What ? You mean sell off copper in place for another service to under cut their fibre offer? When they have £35 billion to make up.... the service offering could be 1/2 speed for 1/4 price

And it will only cost between 25 & 35 billion pounds........ (needs some kind of pay back) just to sort out the odd idling copper tech
