RE: Have Telecons Had Their Day14 Feb 2020 16:58
BoBetts - I do agree, but I’m not as certain as you
Turns out toffs examples were even better than NORTEL, Nokia is excellent, although is still doing lots of business.
My gut feel for companies like BT is in an competitive sector they can collapse under their own weight. They can’t manoeuvre like new startups & of course they cost so much to operate
If the future is full fibre, then their scale might be an advantage, but at the same time, that’s a lot of money and effort for something which they won’t reap full reward for.
I think what I’m saying is people are getting used to getting a lot for very little cost, in all walks of life, it’s not competition, it’s that companies are prepared to deliver those services at that cost, so straight away companies like THREE offering 5G at no extra cost.... huge costly setups like BT risk being cut off at their knees, because these prices don’t cover their install and operational costs... TV mobile, bb, business services under cut by cheap voip service providers. Echo dot & apps throwing voice calls in for free.
The rest of the story was told best by toff, can BT find new revenue streams, can they change and innovate?
I think they can. But I’m not 100% sure & NORTEL shows how quickly mass can sink
