The RNS announcing the change to telesales also said:
"The BigDish App will be made more attractive to both consumers and restaurants. There will be more flexible discount options available and consumers will be able to book up to 7 days in advance rather than just 48 hours in advance."
The booking window has been changed for new signings and will be changed for all shortly, however, nothing has been done about varying the discounts. This is something that needs to be done.
Just to clarify by "more flexible discount options" I am taking it that they mean a range of discounts between 50% at the greatest and 10% at the lowest - ie. 50%, 40%, 35%, 30%, 25%, 20%, 15% and 10%.
The reasons are:
1) This is more restaurant friendly. Not all restaurants want to give a 50% discount at any time. It looks as if at the moment if a restaurant doesn't want to agree to the 50% or 2 for 1 then they are offered the 30% discount all day option or told they cannot list on the platform. With all due respect, I do not think that Big Dish is a big enough deal to be turning away potential restaurant partners. More restaurants will wish to join the platform if there is a bigger choice of discounts.
2) Restaurants will join far more easily if there are more discount options. The telesales team will find their job easier and the sign-up rate will improve dramatically.
3) At the moment some restaurants offer discount seats 7 days a week though others will say "No seats available" during their busier periods. With more varied discounts all of the restaurants will offer discounted seats 7 days a week. The restaurants can adjust the level of discount to fill their seats.
4) Finally, and most importantly, for the lower discounts, Big Dish will be able to charge a higher booking fee. At the moment they charge 50p for the 50% discount and 2 for 1's and £1 for the 25% discount slots. For any discount lower than 25% - ie 20%, 15% or 10% Big Dish will be able to charge a £1.50p booking fee. This is good business sense.
In fact, offering more flexible discount options is good business sense all round.
Initially, the 30% only discount option needs to come with a lower level - say 20% or 15%. Big Dish should not be bossing the restaurants around. They are the bread and butter here. There won't be any customers without restaurants. They need to be treated with respect.
