Have been watching this company for quite a while - nothing to do with the fact I used to live in Ashtead! Took the plunge last week having some cash available. Would buy more if other stocks can be sold on Monday. a big if unfortunately.

Encouraging to see that PCIP won 2 awards in the 2018 CNP : Best PCI Compliance Provider and Best Call Centre Solution. These from a US body within a year of the company's move into the USA. "The company has changed significantly over the past 12 months, migrating its PCI DSS solutions to the cloud and, according to the company, becoming the only true cloud provider able to deliver services globally. In addition, it has recently launched in the US, opening an office in Charlotte in 2017."

Thanks for the info, I wouldn't argue with it. I started buying GA shares in the 90s as an employee. The effects of de-regulation were being felt and mergers were the name of the game. The driving force was Bob Scott who joined in 1992. My boss strongly advised us to join the SAYE scheme at the time! By July 2000 Bob Scott was CEO of CGNU and the shares were >�11. If only we'd sold.. Bob was the man who gave Fred Goodwin his massive pension. 2001 Scott left to join RBS, a bank with which Aviva had excessively close relations. In my view Aviva was saved by RBS's crash otherwise there's strong reason to believe RBS would have got even further into Aviva's pockets before taking it down with them. Aviva's management after Scott's departure was lacklustre and weak. Internal strife cost them at least two star performers, Tidjane Thiam and Patrick Snowball. The former went to Prudential whose fortunes soared and the latter was ousted by the useless Andrew Moss (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/migrationtemp/2807689/Avivas-UK-head-quits-in-board-bust-up.html) under Lord Sharman's chairmanship. Basically Aviva struggled for a long time under poor management. Mark Wilson was handed a fairly tough assignment but whilst Aviva's top management has been a drag, it is a company with massive underlying strength in its funds and fund management and therein lies the potential IMO. I've reduced my holding to diversify elsewhere but I still have quite a large investment for the yield.

The article takes a rather blinkered view of the matter IMO, as if only the US matters. Another article by the wonderfully named Marcus Phayre-Mudge of TR Property states "Prime shopping centre valuations are on a �downward glide path�" and "�Retail property remains deeply unpopular whilst the other side of the online, omni-channel retailing phenomenon, namely warehousing, continues to experience stellar returns,� " He doesn't mention the 'O' word though: "French logistics developer Argan was the top performing investment in the portfolio over this period, with a 37.6% share price return. Meanwhile, Segro (SGRO) rose by 35.4% and Londonmetric (LMPL) returned 16.3%." It doesn't say much that isn't already out there. In the case of HSBC it pays a decent divi, altho' cover is slim, and it is in dollars. High street banking? Well on the way out at the moment altho' the vulnerability of Visa yesterday shows the danger of complacency over security. Hardware with no backup is pretty dumb, or are they covering up outside interference? For me HSBC is one UK stock that may protect against UK economic woes ahead. Carney would love to raise rates but dare not risk it.

If I were in your happy position I would invest the lot in Ocado. And you'd thank me for that advice one day. But DYOR.

at 'upgrade' time. Said 'what new phone can I have'. Was told I didn't need one, just a new deal and to use the cloud to free up space. New phones aren't that much more wonderful any more.

In fact Aviva wasn't Commercial Union! The company is a composite of General Accident+Provident Mutual+Commercial Union+Norwich Union. The shares were reallocated under some formula I forget right now so it is not possible to do a straight comparison. As Aviva, the dividend suffered under Andrew Moss's poor leadership and so did the share price. Moss left after a shareholder revolt and matters have slowly improved since.

You have expertise in that field? I wish I had! But as a shareholder in Ocado I am pleased they are taking precautions in that direction and hopefully not relying on Kroger entirely. As we now know, Edison invented everything and we just copied him!

Sure it's a done deal but like I said they have to build the infrastructure hence the 3 sites they seek. They need to find money too. Ocado have the know-how. It's not a growth stock, that's the simple truth. It's likely to follow the FTSE100. Look elsewhere for excitement!
