Sounds about right. If he's putting a May deadline on the operation in the East, going on his armies recent performance, he's likely to be disappointed.

Whatever, the next 2-3 weeks are likely to be critical. If the Russians some how manage to over run the Ukrainians then we'll be into a never ending gorilla/ insurgency type conflict. If the Ukrainians manage to hold them back they'll be in a stalemate. Either was I think FXPO will be OK. I was worried about the railways getting taken out (which they've started to do) but as per they recent update they have managed to keep exporting via other means.

Zelenskyy says Russia is aiming to take the East and the South of the country. Wouldn’t surprise me if the southern port facilities are destroyed. Putin won’t be happy with just Crimea and the East. He needs an extra land grab to please his heading banging communist inner circle.

If Putin stops at the Donbas region it should be positive. If he continues to push further over through Odesa to Muldova it obviously will not be positive. Plus if both sides concentrate their forces in the east without a peace treaty then the war will drag on. The Black Sea blockade of the Ukrainian cost will also likely remain.

NATO are going to supply Ukraine with anti ship weapons. Id say those Russian ships sat off Odesa are heading out to sea.

Because there’s talk of a peace deal, unlikely Russia can achieve their objectives anyway and the increased demand for Iron Ore pellets after the war.

The more I see about this war though the more I’m convinced it’s unsustainable for a long period of time. Both in terms of the numbers of Russians being killed or deserting and equipment being lost. Unless something drastically changing I can’t see them getting to the middle of the country where the mines are. As mentioned below the biggest worry is damage to infrastructure. Railway lines can probably be repaired in a short period of time. Bridges and port facilities however could be out of action for a lot longer.

They’re probably talking about diplomacy now cause they’re getting their arses kicked. The DOD said today they’ve made no significant gains over the last few days. They haven’t taken any of their main objectives and by some counts are already over 10000 dead. Personally I think they’ll just do as much damage as they can now. Maybe not to an iron mine but the railways and infrastructure will take a hit. The Ukrainians are blowing up bridges etc to slow their advance.

Very true. NATO were saying in the 90s that their armed forces need to be lighter and more mobile. The logistics to keep all the Russian armour moving would need to be huge. Western military strategists will be looking at these armoured Russian columns and thinking how easy they would be to take out, jets, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles, troops with anti tank capabilities. That’s before you even put modern battle tanks into action.

Russian power is a myth. Probably why they’ve stock pilled 6000 nuclear war heads.

I can't see this being over quickly unless someone in Putin's inner circle get rid of him. Losing or pulling out would make Russia look weak around the world, especially in China. That would be it for Putin. It probably is anyway its just a matter of time. Urban fighting across all the large towns and cities in Ukraine. This is going to be awful for everyone involved.

The west are now testing Putins resolve. If he invades they turn it into a disaster zone and a nightmare for Putin. If he withdraws he loses face. It’s his own fault for playing strong arm tactics.

I usually take my daughter on a package type holiday in the summer. Looking to book today and prices are way higher than they normally are. People have been rolling over and using credit for the last 2 years now. No availability over the Easter holidays. The next cheaper option for a lot of people will be budget airlines, air B&B type holidays.

This year is going to be huge for European travel. Happy to hold now until later in the year.

Travel restrictions within Europe now seem like a waste of time. You can go and stand in a packed night club in London but not on the side of a mountain in France.

Also the number of infections from this wave may fall as quickly as they have risen. The end of the month may look very different to what it does today.
