Pretty fair analysis Equanimity but I don't completely agree with point 3. I don't think any recession is going to be quite as bad as what was being predicted, say 3 - 6 months ago. Like you say China has now opened up. Unlike the Russians the Chinese are business orientated and will be keen to get supply chains open again. Doesn't look they'll be going into any more lock downs. Gas and Oil has come down significant since Putin decided to send thousands of his own people to their deaths. Lower energy prices will start to filter through especially as the Northern Hemisphere heads into the summer. Inflation will start to come down with interest rates to follow.

But i agree not much good news for Ukraine or FXPO in the short to medium term. Putin is about to try and overwhelm Ukraine by sending thousands more of his troops to their deaths. With little training, old kit, no armor or air cover they haven't got a chance. Hopefully they'll do the same to Putin as what the Italians did the Mussolini and his wife in 1943.

The conversation started around you saying Ukraine should just concentrate on their economy. I said Russia should have done the same thing. No reply to that. Just you and JustNrt running down the KREMLIN anti western play book.

So what is your opinion on why Russians have a lower standard of living than those in the rest of Europe? What is your opinion on Putin as a dictator of the Russian people? What is your opinion of Putin sending thousands of his own people to their end? How come more Russians fled the country than he managed to round up in his mobilisation? Pushing the standard Kremlin propaganda there are we POWER? That’s what a living under a dictatorship does to people. Denies them the ability to think for themselves.

I’ll tell you the fundamental difference between the countries you mention and Russia. The west went there to get rid of dictators and alike. Russia went into Ukraine to impose one. If the Afghans can’t stand up for themselves after 20 years they should look at their own corrupt people.

You failed to mention why Putin hasn’t turned Russia into a superpower over the last 20 years? Or a major economy at least. Or are you not aloud?

That would have been the best option for Russia 20 years ago and is today. They are the 11 largest economy in the world trying to play superpower. If Putin had concentrated on building a strong economy 20 years they could have been the 4/5th or 6th. Gateway between the East and West selling both an abundance of natural resources. But no the twisted mind of the Kremlin wants to drag them back (and Europe) into the nineteenth century.

I made some rough calculations from the 2021 end of year financial results. During this year FXPO held less than 5% in inventories as a percentage of total sales for 2021. Put another way that's 2-3 weeks worth of pellets to supply customers with at 2021 level of sales. This may have been increased slightly but given the period of time now since production has been reduced or halted all together I can't see there being anything left to sell.
