RE: Interim results13 Aug 2019 10:01
Morning Mike, I seem to remember them saying that they had already scanned around 2,000 containers at last mention. They used the word “containers” rather than TEUs, so my assumption is that would have been closer to 4,000 TEUs.....ie you can probably half your number of TEUs for containers (yes the fee would be higher for 40 ft but i don’t think we’re currenlty talking money)
I know that the big boys (Maersk, CMA etc) with their big ships (10,000+ TEUs) would go from one port to one destination and offload all. But that’s for major routes such as Europe to China. (And they tend to be fuller on the way back than the way out due to the Chinese exporting so much more). Not sure how big Tema is in terms of end market, but I’d assume that smaller ships are more likely to be multi port drop offs (as they can pop into smaller ports more easily and their containers are more accessible as they’re not stacked so high.
But my base case would still be that most of the containers would be offloaded each time at Tema.
Apologies for the ramblings and Not much help, but i fear we’ll have a couple of boring days until Thursday
