Second bit is Mx Swimfan's employment terms. You can be nowhere near insider info, but the terms of employment may prevent you both from dealing in any shares, etc. I used to be subject to such rules and I have a strong feeling that they most likely violate one's freedoms, but it's a tricky area.

What annoys me is that there's plenty of real insider dealing going on anyway - people who break the law cannot be controlled by introducing even more legislation.

On a related topic, I find the "connected persons" clause a bit odd in this day and age.

E.g. when I'm NDA'd I am legally bound not to disclose any information, including to Mrs B or my kids. It is entirely my responsibility to make sure that I do not leak confidential information, to mates in a pub, random strangers in the street, or Mrs B in the heat of passion. I do not quite get why Mrs B is then not allowed to buy related stocks - the clause, effectively, assumes that Mrs B is not in control of her own finances, which goes against the female emancipation principles of the last 70 years or so.

Your "better half" would have signed a document that prevent him/her from trading "insider" stocks. The document most likely has a paragraph that says that "connected persons" are also considered to be insiders and shall not buy the said stocks.
"Connected persons" would cover the household.

iweb do isa and sipp accounts with £5 per trade. You can probably find something cheaper if you trade more often.

iweb's service is OK - had a couple issues with them over the years, but nothing major.
