IQE , Cardiff and Apple !12 Sep 2018 22:57
I had to drive 100 miles today, to take She who must be obeyed to her very expensive dentist in Cardiff ! Only the best in the Country will do for her !
For those who do not know it , Cardiff is one of the nicest cities in the UK . The whole centre has been sympathetically modernised with a large pedestrianised shopping area with most main branded stores present. A lot of it is in a recently built shopping Mall , as our American cousins would say !
Cardiff was created as the result of the discovery of high quality coal in the South Wales valleys . It became one of the main seaports which exported coal to the world ! Great wealth was made and the city still portrays this, with its "Victorian castles and University buildings " . The old Cardiff bay and docks have been transformed into a leisure area which also contains the Welsh " Parliament " and one of the finest " Opera Halls " in the world !
My youngest son read a History degree at the University whilst my daughter read a postgraduate degree .Both have been complimentary of the University which is particularly revealing in my daughters case as her alma mater is Cambridge University .
So, all this nonsense that I have been reading, here and in another place, about it being difficult to attract a good financial director to work in Cardiff , is just that - nonsense !
And, I haven't even mentioned the rugby and the famous Cardiff Arms Park ! I still refuse to call it the Millenium Stadium !
As usual I watched the Apple presentation tonight ! They really are a great company . Presuming that IQE are heavily involved in wafer production for them ,which I suspect is the case, then the announcement of three new phone models with Face ID can only be good news for IQE ! Pay by face would seem to confirm that the technology is thought to be highly secure ! The functions of the Apple Watch 4, in my view take the device from being a bit of a novelty product to something very serious ! The feature that detects someone falling has huge implications for care of the elderly , as anyone who has knowledge of the Piper alarm will realise ! How they thought up the ECG technology is sheer brilliance ! If IQE are involved in even some of this then hugh congratulations must go out to that Irish fella and his team ,
