Not just here, see UK FTSE updates in online press about it being down, with vodafone a drag due to bad reception of the merger leak yesterday, at least 3 articles and not one mention it went ex-div today
It is quite clear many on here don't understand ex divi. If the sp falls by the divi, about 3.8p, then that is the same as ending up level.
How does the market not? The share has gone ex-div at a div rate of approx 5% and we are down roughly that level, thats all this drop is. Not some wider view of the potential merger news
.
Mr market clearly doesn't think so..
Mesh, yes think so.
Hutch will be busy influencing all their other interests in UK PLC too, and both VOD/3 in EU with BEREC.
Last I looked, OFCOM is still a BEREC/ EU institution subscribing to WTO trade rules etc, so the merger going ahead is likely the end of the beginning ie paying back stakeholders against an agreed regulatory glidepath underpinned by an agreed common definition of cost that they all operators navigate toward.
Yes, me too!
Luckily i live out in the country near one of Vodacom park and ride.
Often tempted to buy tech for the civ nats.
Big technical overview in this Vodafone stock is still available and if the price is right might go for it.
Nevertheless, verify that the political class is on board or something falling in a phone call from the gutter sidelines.
Nah, I would not short this at this price. The potential for upside is much higher than the downside.
I do not see any potential scenario where by VOD is in danger of collapse or "terminal".
By the way Porsche, the word loses its meaning if you use it too often, in your case, in every single post.
If you think this is the last dividend, that's your opinion, however unlikely it is.
What was communicated in yesterday's update that pundits did not pay much attention to concerned the debt allocation instead of cash payment. In a nutshell, my take is that instead of previously aired arrangement for Hutchison to pay Vod in cash over a number of years to make up for the difference in valuation, it seems they will allocate a larger portion of the existing liability in the combined group to Hutchison instead.
This means vod net debt is likely to drop by, I guess, 2-4bn depending on the final valuation of each entity. In a best case scenario net debt will be less than 30bn post merger. That would put vod as the leading major telco with best debt/EBIDTA ratio. They are already a leader on that metric.
Porsche1946 I totally disagree with your comments. I don’t think this will be the last dividend they pay. If they were going to curtail the dividends they would have done it long before now. Give the new CEO a chance.
I think dividend is split in two - one paid at final the other interim so about 4.5% so about equal. if merger goes ahead and they manage to sell off some of the weaker assets we should start to see this bombed out share start to recover - who knows?!
4% fall but 10% dividend
Why would anyone expect to see a bid for Vod? They will just wait for it to collapse and buy the bits they want from bondholders for pennies on the pound. Completely terminal, it’s almost certain this is the last dividend Vod will pay before it’s cancelled. The debt as it rolls over in this will become crippling to refinance and it has 12 million in lease liabilities that they have no chance of offloading as commercial property is toast. Short it.
Sp down today ..obviously you know vod is ex div today ?
SP down today on anticipated announcement Friday of merger of Vodafone 51% and 3three 49%...
Today could be a watershed moment for Vodafone. At this price could we see a potential bidder? If not at over 10% yield it will surely attract income investors. Dividends are never guaranteed but they have been able to maintain their dividend during testing times. They have assets to sell and if the new CEO has any thought of saving this Company the level of debt needs to be reduced.
Its gone xd, did you not expect a drop?
All time low and investors are getting stuck in...Good news on the horizon perhaps .....
You'd think paid share manipulators would be screened for better grammar/spelling wouldnt you !
15 years of investing has taught me that usually in the stockmarket an unloved share will eventually get recognised and re-valued. But VOD is stretching this rule to breaking point with this 5% swing !
