The first consideration when looking at Redcar steelworks should be is there any contamination. As with all steelworks the chemicals in steel production used over a long time will leave some of the ground contaminated. I would not like Sirius minerals product to be anywhere near this steelworks. But any harbour facilities could be a benefit to us once given a clean bill of health. Corby steelworks is an example http://www.environmentlaw.org.uk/rte.asp?id=266
Poortiming - Good question the answer for which might become clear when we see the details of the terms of the lease. It maybe that it was cheaper to lease than to buy. ALso it may be that the facilities may not be needed for the full life of the mine.
Why lease and not purchase?
Adam and eve'd it more like :-) Jesse
I assume PAAA meant, who ever'd av fawt it.
Can anyone with a better knowledge of SXX propsed ore transport sytem interpret this news? Does it mean a possible route for ore via the tunnel and then overland to this site for shipping until/ instead of the existing proposal? Is it too late to reroute the tunnel ? is that a real alternative? Am I even more confused than i think i am?
Morning, Cranleigh. The Redcar Steelworks site was highlighted in the Telegraph article on the 12th also: ''Sirius wants to build its own loading dock at Teesside. Before then, however, it hopes to make use of the dock that shipped metal from the steelworks at Redcar, which closed in 2015. The abandoned steelworks, at the tip of the Wilton site, casts a long shadow over the area''. If there's synergies, benefits in timescale or efficiencies to be found it's great to know we can rely on our CEO to unearth them (pun intended). Incidentally, I wasn't aware Will Woods was born within earshot of St Mary-le-Bow Church. Whod ever have thought it, eh? Cheers, per ardua ad astra
A potentially interesting development. If it does lead to lower cots then the economics of the project will be even better. It would be interesting to see if this is mentioned at the forthcoming AGM. That would depend on whether we have a binding agreement done by then.
Can you provide a link please.
New news, and if true would expect an RNS if - as I would hope - it should result in material savings. Perhaps waiting to reach the stage of a binding agreement - this is apparently only at the stage,, as the Times journalist writes, of “eads of terms”! Just an eads-up, then?
Anyone read the article in The Times today? Sirrius potentially taking part of the steelworks..
Dunno. Why do some people complain about every little thing that doesnt fit their idea of a perfect world. Its a mystery.
Why i we commenting on another company on this (SXX) B.B, feel free to share/post your opinions on the company of Harvest Minerals, but on the appropriate BB.
It's new to me anyway. Very positive in that it is making use of an existing site and will be a big plus in the goverments assessment of granting a debt guarantee.

GKs posts are sometimes best characterised as being Vulcanesque. Live long and prosper my emotionally detached yet eminently logical chatmate. Sochya eh dif SL (and cut out the acronyms, typing longform is a bit like being poor....it takes no effort)
More pertinent may be the mention that the Brazillian government wants to be self sufficient in fertilizer by 2020...which conflicts with what CF said in recent BMO presentation?

Or........... his focus was on birds beaks :) All the best (mine is Rita Ora...........!)
I think GK means that the regrettable demise of the social contract created in the glory days of 1945 has forced well-meaning and innocent citizens who wish to plan for the future to contemplate becoming demon traders, and that such people need all the help they can get from the more naturally demonic posters on this forum.
