a huge short here.
Aye. I've been waiting for this opportunity to get out for a few years too. Why the recent rises?
Been waiting months for this to happen. Happy days.
Clearly with trade tariffs on the radar for Trump any share involved with the emerging markets is going to take some knocks.Aberdeen Asset Management currently down 5.5% down today too... Trump's in-tray is going to be stacked so high that it will be some while before anyone is really clear as to what the blue print is likely to be.
Can you please tell me: what is your current ROE and what is your targeted ROE?
Appalling. I can't fathom why the shares are at 667. They should be much lower given the awful returns
I think Barclays may be talking the share down so they can buy more. I have a lot of confidence in the management and direcetion St Chart is going in. I suspect when Bill Winters took over there was a bit of "Kitchen sinking". I would think they will make 1.5 billion pretax this year. Enough to pay a small divi, may be 10p. 3.2 billion shares in issue so it would cost them circa 320 million. If BW is projecting 8% return that would be 2.6 billion profit. If I was going to invest for the medium term it would be in a far east company which effectively is what ST chart is. I do not expect a sudden surge in profits but I would be staggered if BW does not go for steady planned increase. The bank is undoubtedly under better management than Sands (who was way out of his depth) and is is a much stronger position even now. By 2020 if the bank is making close to 3 billion pretax the share price should be double what it is now. My point is that I have every confidence in BW to pull this off. He has got a quality opportunity in the best region, at the moment, in the world.
The petition is going quite well; ~6450 signatures so far. ONLY 1 week to go !!! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/112044/sponsors/frRbCOsOLO6QqIN82UOX If you hate seeing buys reported as sells etc!!!!!! Has already been sent to Martin Lewis, Daily Mail, Moneyweek & Watchdog. New chancellor, shaddow chancellor, most MP's & the Stock Exchange aim committee. If you follow tweeters etc, send it to them please! If this petition doesn't reach 10,000; then imo we might as well have not bothered as it will almost certainly be filed B1N; @ 10,000 the government should respond.as well as So , If you haven't yet signed or indeed have but haven't passed it on to others, then now's the time to do so
Not a bad day

Not sure I'm too please to hear the new Chairman is an ex IMF paper pusher with no commercial banking experience. None the less, its good to see the sp trending nice upwards recently.
standard chartered bank better than retail share price hope technical analysis Standard Chartered (STAN) is in quite a different position from the clown banks (aka the retail banks) as the share price has already bettered its immediate downtrend and looks to be in a position where decent market conditions can promote some upward movements. Unlike the retails, STAN did not experience a thorough kicking following the referendum, and that it's already trading above the ruling downtrend gives some hope. We've painted a "glass ceiling" on this at 585p and the reasons are pretty obvious. Since November last, the market has seen fit to restrain growth above this level and now, should the share actually close above 585p, we're calculating growth to 689p initially with secondary a more useful 800p. If it has all been a dream, the share price would require to slump below the red line on the chart, at 500p currently, to signal coming weakness to 394p or less.
Its a definite snakes & ladders share...depends if you are holding long term or not..last week would have been a good time ...
Hi Everyone, I wondered whether you can help. I am thinking of switching my shares from Barclays to Standard Chartered. I was a holder back in the day. But now I am wondering whether I should sell and move back to Standard Chartered. Please excuse the newbie question, but your advice will be greatly appreciated.
"I think we will look back in 6 months and go wow that was cheap" I reckon 6 months from now. Defo.
Apologies for board hopping but- The petition is going quite well; ~5150 signatures so far. Although it really needs a turbo boost. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/112044/sponsors/frRbCOsOLO6QqIN82UOX This petition was stalled in parliament since 12th Aug 15; finally green lit on 12th feb 2016. The FCA don't even reply on the matter, now is your chance to have your say. If you hate seeing buys reported as sells etc!!!!!! Has already been sent to Martin Lewis, Daily Mail, Moneyweek & Watchdog. My local MP supported this petition by writing to the petitions committee to help un-stall it. There’s 650 MP’s in Westminster, So have you written to your MP? 649 to go! If this petition doesn’t reach 10,000; then imo we might as well have not bothered as it will almost certainly be filed B1N; @ 10,000 the government should respond. We are currently getting approx. 100 new signatures a week, but need 3x that amount to reach the target with only 15 weeks to go. So – If you haven’t yet signed or indeed have but haven’t passed it on to others, then now’s the time to do so. If each person who has signed can get just one other person to sign then we will double the total immediately. I have posted to all aim listed gas n oilies, currently doing the footsy 100. But I can only do so much to push this. Really need you guys & gals to help. Thanks to all who have signed so far.
Difficult deciding when to get into this one...I agree snakes & ladders style !
Sell in May and go away ? ... This is a snakes and ladders share ....steady ladder up and fast snake down !!!! Very easy to get caught out in trying to guess the top of the ladder !!!!!!! Still ...very tempting to try to get on board for the next ride of the rollercoaster ....
Are closed and actually bought some of these. Having gone all the way down from 590 to the low 550's, and bounced back up here, seems the feeding frenzy is over and normal service has been resumed....GLA
