Dumbpunter I'm struggling to understand what you're getting at. On the one hand you're suggesting that this is not a blue chip investment (which it clearly isn't anyway) therefore Venrock are only having a punt and on the other youre saying that it takes a very confident professional to invest in this share - which is what Venrock are doing?
Thanks Dumbpunter, I will take that as a compliment!
1. Check the SP. It is not a Penny Share.
2. Nobody said it was a blue chip investment
228.20 to buy now on IG.......................
Ghia,
One would have to remember the ´ Lansdowne stake ´ which could be bought out if someone wanted to get a larger slice of the cake :-)
Lot's of possibilities...
John, they may well want 15/20% but they will not get that amount at this price - they can only buy what others are willing to sell. As far as leverage goes then they already have a significant holding at 6%, when the target is 51% then voting for or against moves the result by 12%.
Dumbpunter - I do not think Venrock do ‘punts’. They are not gamblers and they cannot throw clients money around like confetti.
As for ‘interfering in something so small’. Think about that comment. This is a development that could well be worth billions. Billions is not small.
Manifesto, as far the approval goes they have been clear from the 20th July that the next step was to speak to regulatory agencies about approvals so I guess that's 'going it alone'. However any prospective licencee/buyer will obviously know that if SNG get approval on their own then the price will rise significantly so in my mind its likely that both things are happening at the same time.
B2H, of course they are speculators it’s what all private equity companies do, invest Money With a view that the company will make it then make an exit with a good profit .
My take on takeover etc runs like this. The Bod were much younger when they started. It's been a 15 haul etc. Now in their mid 70s it's time for the pay off? But not too cheaply. Their grandchildren are at uni etc so a nice trustfund wouldn't go amiss.
Usually takeovers are at a 35%premium but not this. There will be too many others chasing. So venneed to bag a big slice as quick as they can. Enjoy the ride
I would of thought we would have heard something this week. This radio silence is killing me :(
Be nice just to get an RNS to say Richards still alive would calm my nerves :)
Its fun speculating re: takeover. Going by Venrocks previous investments, as mentioned in my post when they first stepped in; Venrock will keep adding, as their M.O. is to take a strong position. This suggests that they see big potential in Synairgen. What they do with their holding in terms of influence is quite interesting - unlike the previous investors in Synairgen, where the strategy is invest and sleep, Venrock will try and get the best possible outcome for themselves and in effect all other shareholders (which for now is good news for us).
My view is that they will take a final position around 15-20%. Which provides some upward push balanced by the few who are selling - providing a great support level.
Good point B2HS2L..... !
GLA!
Great big if, IF venrock acquires 30% of synairgen then they have to make a bid, which I do not think will happen . Synairgen will in my opinion Do a deal with a large pharma as I’ve said previously.they already have a deal for the nebuliser with Phillips, and are in negotiations with three pharma companies in relation to bringing it to market.
Are Venrock speculators?
Venrock are obviously interested in making an investment in SNG's prospects, same as other investors.
What they might really want though is to be holding shares when companies are preparing to make offers for SNG.
Prospective buyers will be looking to find 30% of SNG shares (45 Mil shares), and Venrock might be approached to see if their shares are available.
Venrock could then add their premium.
Are we going it alone for Approval.....If not why have we not announced a deal
with a Partner to seek it on our behalf......Surely we are NOT wasting this much time??????
Thoughts????
Manifesto - Agreed my assumption is we will see Venrock continue absorbing anything they can get their hands on.
I agree Newbie, I believe that the COPD data is a vital component to a speedy and successful outcome.
Hi Ghia.....
I think 6% is way too low to be influential....But I see your point.....
I think they would need a much bigger stake...If there is another
interested party I do not think it would be enough .....But that
is just my personal view.....If however the buys are for a Pharma
who intends to make a bid..and they keep adding..that could change..GL!
I take it we are sure that the initial Papers haven't been circulated yet for Peer Review?
If not why would they wait so long to circulate? Or is it possible they want the COPD results first and release both for review together?
Ghia - yes, that is my understanding too. You'll be paying cash to yourself for the shares you own. That's why markets tend to go crazy as soon as it looks like someone's stocking up. I am surprised this hasn't happened here already, but I guess it is down to old IIs selling.
Good post dumbpunter,
Again only my personal view Manifesto and forgive me but actual approval is almost secondary in as much as everything will be dependent upon approval being achieved. Whatever the state of play with a bidding process the BoD will be working hard to achieve approval concurrently - no approval no deal, achieving approval derisks the entire project and nobody will spend the level of money we are suggesting here without a clear route to market.
Manifesto - If you already own 6% of the company via proxy, you can bid higher than your competitor since you only have to purchase 94% of the company or is my logic too simplistic.
Could be barking up the wrong tree, but if the Venrock position is on behalf of a big player they are hoovering shares to give them an edge/ensure they are the highest bidder.
Hi Manifesto, whilst I do not pretend to be an expert on Big Pharma, I do know a little about how the market works and can imagine the conversations that are currently ongoing. Pure speculation on my part but as I believe the overall good is represented by Big Pharma taking this forward and getting it to market quickly and efficiently then the board and its advisors will be having detailed discussions with potential investors trying to establish who has the biggest appetite for this project and will therefore pay the most. The hope will be that they can determine the best bidder and then make an announcement that carries BoD support. That does not stop any other interested party subsequently making a higher bid to the market although the BoD will be committed to the original offer until such a time as that offer is rejected, removed or lapses. Of course any potential bidder who had already built up a substantial holding would be well placed in such a situation - achieving that position should push the price up in the short term pending a bid.
