I think that is a good summing up, fingers crossed !
Yes Barchid ,
The next couple of months will maybe be akin to the darkest hour before dawn ?
Because worldwide there are now more than 10 vaccines coming on stream ,
We can hopefully give this bloody covid the heave-ho!
A rather long, detailed article re difficulties licensed premises are facing in business section of todays ST, no point giving a link as it is behind a paywall.
Findlay quoted in there saying Jan & Feb will "be tricky," Martin from Spoon's is interviewd and a report from Shore Capital also featured.
An informative read if you have the time.
Indeed, HNY to all.
This year will quite possibly be a testing one, at times, for Marstons holders, but we do have the satisfaction of knowing that one person being tested harder than us on a bad day is Mr Findlay, stretched to almost breaking point I guess into upgrading his estate as cost efficiently & as speedily as he can !
We must all wish he succeeds.
There are a few problems with your suggestion, Astra Zeneca expect to produce 2million does per week from mid Jan and unfortuneately the vaccine is adminstered intra muscular and not by mouth. If by mouth no doubt many would have 10x the dose??
Sipp-it the levity of your suggestion well taken!
Happy New Year All
Happy new year fellow holders.
I thought I would add this ( one of those messages doing the rounds )
“ if they added the vaccine into beer and opened up all the pubs , then the whole country would be vaccinated by next Thursday! “
Marstons is their top choice for 2021 in today’s times :-) Happy New Year.
Just in case I don't get round to saying it tomorrow.
Marstons are replacing full barrels of keg and cask products if they go out of date during the lockdowns.. which is nice of them!
I don’t have any Estrella but I’m sure many many pubs will have some to exchange!
Daave. Look on the bright side, at least we can save water by flushing the toilets with the £6m Estrella stockpile.
Dave
Thanks, I never thought anyone would ever use bog rolls as an example of buying power, even on this board, first time I read it I thought it was a joke, but sadly the joke was in her reply !
Toilet roll? Really?
So Marstons sold 200 pubs in the last 18 months, then buy 200 pubs from somewhere else..
And people think they will use these ‘additional pubs’ to demand a discount on stock?
Do you reckon those suppliers/companies upped their prices when the volume went down in February 2020 on completion of the sale of the 200 pubs that went to admiral taverns/Hawthorn leisure?
The additional buying power would be marginal at best and wiped out ten times over by the legal fees involved in incorporating the venues!
Not to mention that they are probably tenanted pubs which probably don’t use Marstons suppliers!
Barchild, oh okay, well glad I could give some insight, helps to see what business are doing to improve bottom line (pun not intended)
Clairesmith
Wow, I never would have thought of that.....
@barchild, basic economics, if the Marstons group can buy alot of products cheaper through leverage of bulk deals across their total estate they reduces costs and increase profits. Simple.
Good luck all, and happy 2021
Fairdealer
Agreed. I thought (& hoped) that RF was going to concentrate on upscaling his own premises now he is no longer in charge of a brewery.
Sadly not to be, apparently he prefers to take on a Welsh challenge rather than just getting on with his day job.
YoYoMa
Looks like another chicken pellets day to me, the ultimate HNY for us all could be to have Tesla man turn up with his words of non wisdom ?
Clairesmith
Most impressed to read that Mars will now be able to buy their toilet roll cheaper, they could save so much on that we could see the dividend restored in 2021 (not).
@hads1991, I was having a joke with you. I'm sure the price will spring up and down a bit until April 2021, from which point looking at everything and C19 vaccine roll out we will be in a clearer upwards trajectory.
I got spooked by Han**** on this morning. Seemed hesitant about the spring... words were may be able to ease some of the restrictions. That is not all! Be interesting.
Yes useful mate cheers.
Opinions Claire. You have yours. I have mine. At the end of the day I could buy back in now and would be in same situation. Will go down a bit before it goes back up a lot.
Thanks Hads1991 for giving the cheap shares back into the market to support new sales.
When the announcement was made on T4 for the S.East of England it dipped to 63 but recovered so fast you would have to be by a PC to catch that dip. IMO I think it will hold into the 70's now as we leave 2020. With mass vaccination being deployed already and the enhancement of the AZn/Ox vaccine from the 4th onwards the markets are already past this phase and looking into Q2/Q3 already. I look at at it like this, we're the first to approve already so we're going to be ahead of deployment over Europe due to localized dispatch, numbers of population and we're using the military logistics to free up vital resources. Using the link you can roughly guess where you vaccination date will be:
https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk
Hope this is useful.
Claire... have you researched the Co's history on aquisitions and disposals? Charles Wells, Pitcher and Piano, sale to Admiral at huge discount. Have concerns the due diligence has been undertaken superficially. Time will tell.
We are not given any information regarding where Brain's Brewery sits in all of this! Are we to believe the Brewery is being mothballed? Very very doubtful, there is bound to be a supply agreement, remember Marstons are only managing the Pub estate. It is the brewery where money is made. Why are'nt Marstons managing the Brewery as part of the deal?
Had hoped after the Carlsberg deal we were going to concentrate on our own estate reaching a level of excellence proposed.
The annual report emphasised a less than adequate level of Senior Management expertise.
Are we thinking a drop when more tier 4 announced? I'm thinking back to around 65/70.
Just sold my 8.2k stake and hope for a retrace. Cant see heading any further up considering no good news for next month or so.
A great thing about the UK is the furlough scheme has ensured Brits have money still, not like the US where most citizens have been put into massive debt.
Do when people do go back to work they will have cash they can spend in the pub. UK gov will welcome this as the money being pumped back into entertainment will save that sector and jobs plus be taxable to get money into the HMRC pockets.
