With the shares trading at a five year low, JDW must be praying that something lifts sentiment on Friday with the Chancellor's announcement. But how to square rising interest rates and mortgage rates, with high fuel prices and unreal food inflation? At my local Tesco, a block of brie cheese for example is up 30% in three months. A multipack of crisps is up over 25% over the same period. Even washing up liquid is up 30%.
So how can JDW weather this storm when it is so reliant on discretionary spending? To be fair, I suspect a lot of the spending is deemed necessary by those doing it, rather than discretionary, so perhaps this is how it will steer through?
Don’t catch a falling knife
Arsenal don't need vouchers in a spoons as cheap as chips.... The fooker has lost me 10k...
Clever move Tim
How about us oldies that are here everyday!!!?
Isn’t that a student scheme? Hence the timing.
Spoons is fooked
each book has 84 vouchers. The small print say "participating Wetherspoons and Lloyd's no1 bars". It cover about all of the beer and larger's. The locals were swapping bitter tokens with people that drank larger which they didnt need to as you just ask the staff for another book! food covered is mainly breakfast, burgers and pizza. ends 31st October.
I’d be amazed if this was a national scheme. Managers certainly have latitude in individual pubs to push certain items occasionally. I remember seeing a “managers special” on fish and chips a few times pre-covid (them were the days :-). Occasional promotions help manage specific locale issues but mustn’t be overdone. Can’t imagine Tim losing control of his business model like that.
I am doing an Amy Stewart if you are old enough to remember her.
bamf, was that only related to breakfast food or were main meals and alcoholic drinks included? If it works for McDonalds, what's the harm in trying
Don't worry Dim Tim is going to pressure the new Govt to conveniently make everything his business has to buy tariff free thus fulfilling the potential of Brexit.........Not the brightest bulb in life's chandelier our Tim, as he believed everything written on the side of a bus (and also what Jacob Rees Mogg told us ie. after Brexit everything would be cheaper). Look how that has worked out LOL
went to the local spoons last night to find they are giving out voucher books for discount on food and drink! how the hell are we going to make a profit? Breakfast muffin and a never ending tea/coffee is £1.99. even greggs can beat that
Touch wood again this is sinking
Lol :)
SP going in right direction touch wood!
That one of those optical devices they use in hospitals?
Perspective!
RIP Queen Elizabeth
Agreed PC but then Tim (Nice but dim) has never really grasped the bigger picture and only sees the next easiest option to help his flagging trade.
Hospitality industry employs millions. Govt/Truss has no options other than a massive support package or face mass closures and redundancies. I'm thinking VAT, business rate and NI contributions slashed until the mad Russian is finished. I think the same will apply to EU countries. Hospitality to important to be ignored. IMO......GLA
I think the new government needs to reduce vat for pubs & restaurants sales to 5% immediately otherwise energy bills will have a catastrophic effect with countless closures & mass redundancies. It's better to have 5% of something meaningful than 20% of very little, plus of course employees pay NI & income tax to the gov. whereas the unemployed are a drain on gov. cash.
For Tim Martin to suggest they get rid of tariffs just shows how little he understands the global markets and how they work.... tariffs are essential for non EU countries to stop such things as dumping as we know , and destroying long established local markets ... and they work both ways
Sp looking better today lets hope!
Happy days
Tim Martin is the turkey that voted for Christmas. He will be moaning until the end about Brexit but he was one of the main supporters who influenced others.
