Cala.... What will emerge though is how many shares have been left with the underwriters and if that number is significant (ie >15/20%)then there will be downward pressure on the SP . Underwriters don't want to hold stock , they want the juicy fees for underwriting the issue and bank on their city knowledge and contacts to ensure that the issue is priced to " get away" ie that almost all II holders take up their allotment. If the underwriters ae left holding stock , they will , first, seek to unload in bulk to willing buyers(the Qataris but only up to 30%, maybe some others who might buy stock as a hedge for a short position)and if that fails they will attempt to drip feed stock into the market , without scaring the pigeons. That in the present febrile climate will be far from easy , underwriting is money for nothing in a bull market it is tightrope walking in todays market.
If you had bought when I said it was a buy you could now be banking the profit then do it all over again.
It's not always the case. A lot of shareholders are already way in the red, for a lot of them unless in actual need of the cash they'll probably just sit on it for a few years. You only lock up a loss when you sell your shares for a less than you paid for them, until then it's all just fluctuations.
i understand the point you're making luddite & agree that assuming covid is sorted out this share represents reasonable value. The problem with the RI for me is that it makes it difficult to invest, knowing that in couple of weeks time when the discounted shares are fully traded an absolute glut will be sold on the market pushing the price down further. I find the share uninvestable until after that time when there is some certainty about where the SP may be settled!
Paddyboy, this is one of the best shares for PIs , its always been highly volatile, anyone worried by this like whatymessy etc should stay clear as it is high risk, we have seen exactly the same price for IAG +IAGN = £1.57 on 3rd August and 14th May this year and it was even lower in 2012 following which it became one of the best performing shares, take no notice of the doom merchants, I have got this right hundreds more times than I have been wrong about it.
vested interests. mate please don't invest any more cash.
Luddite, vested interests will push this price up & down at will to suit their own needs, always at the expense of PIs. They did it pre RI. propping the price above £2 when the news at the time should've dipped it to 180 minimum. All to keep the proposed RI price high as possible. Same thing happening now. Keep price high till most have bought their rights, now allow freefall dip. I have no issue with IAG as a company. Post virus i hope it will thrive. The vested interests here are really quite shocking in my view & it is really quite bad that lots of clearly inexperienced investors have been sucked into this!
Paddyboy who do you think is manipulating the price ? It is highly unlikely that you are right , its smaller cap shares and AIM crap that gets manipulated, its news flow and sentiment thats affecting IAG and no matter how much the doom merchants on here think they may be influencing the price all they are doing is possibly making a few inpexperienced investors worry uneccessarily which has an immeasurably small influence.
Calamari, the manipulation has continued into this week to encourage people to take up rights. Those who have will now just watch their investment fall before they can even sell it!
the price was being propped up all along to fatten up the calf for slaughter. this has further to fall yet i assure you. call me a deramper if you want but i had a large holding of these shares & got out because of the RI & the manipulation going on here!
Paddyboy : So you are saying the price was overinflated when the sp offer was made I think we all knew this to get as much money out of investors like the old Venus flytrap
The SP dip down was almost inevitable without any huge vaccine news. Offering a deeply discounted RI at a time like this is crazy. Obvious that lots of takers of the discounted shares aiming to sell on first full day of trading for a profit. The market is just preempting that & adjusting accordingley!
I don't disagree with anything you've said, I think you've talked a lot of sense even if a lot of it was obvious. I just don't know how much of it needed to be said especially in that way. Especially when all you're invested in here is being right while someone who is invested is wrong.
Razad : what news are u reading the local rag have you not herd all major counties have to isolate for 14 days so business meeting s halted , holiday season just about finished , BA are running at 25 % , BA are cap in hand for investment. Business meeting are done more and more on the internet Where in god are they going to generate business . I was shocked this morning that the share price dropped so quick i was looking at going in at 100 but i think this has a more to drop eradicating the sp offer . Now im looking at 50 -75 before buying up
How can anyone say there is no bad news there is talk of a two week national lockdown and rising numbers.
I don't think I've ever thought What a Mess was wrong in what he's saying but I've never understood why he takes such joy in it and why he has to come across as so agressive. It would be much more interesting if he could just be normal. I don't even think it's controversial what he says, obviously companies like IAG will struggle during a pandemic, but it won't last forever.
I wouldn't change any investments based on info on these boards either. There have been two many posts recently of people struggling to workout how 3 shares for every 2 you own works.
I'm not as heavily invested in IAG as some on here (Because I can't afford to be) but as long as you think they'll survive be patient and you'll be ok in my opinion. It's not just airlines that won't be able to cope if this goes on for too long so I wouldn't be too pessimisstic.
Looks like British Airways is joke which was consider to be symbol of pride. The SP freely falling without any bad news and it crossed all its target to drop.
