This Sunday (May 5th) our team of local Harland & Wolff colleagues will be hitting the streets to take part in the 2024 Belfast City Marathon Relay.
The team will be running in aid of the Air Ambulance NI charity, which attends some of the most traumatic medical incidents across the province, delivering the very best possible pre-hospital critical care.
To support the team please head to the link below: https://lnkd.in/ekyPHPcM

Technically, it as an "addition" to the Marine Services fleet. I'm sure there was no intent to deceive by obmitting other facts. ;)
Si - forgive me they put it up as ânext addition to the H&WMS FleetââŚ. Didnât mention internal transfer đ
Thanks Si_D,
Maybe H&W Puffin can support survey work.
Not recently purchased and not new to the company, afaiaa, it was part of the fixtures and fittings when they bought the yard but has always been known as the Lundy Puffin. From the agents sales bumph,"There is a substantial amount of fixtures, fittings and plant remaining on site and this includes a dock tug boat". They took her down south a couple of weeks ago and have just tidied her up with a lick of paint. I did mentioned it on here back then when Stokey was asking how Marine Services has grown to five freight vessels. I knew it belonged to the yard but wasn't sure what it was doing in Penzance. Didn't realised that they were incorporating it into the Marine services arm of the business. Not sure exactly when the crane was fitted and it could well be a new addition. It certainly wasn't fitted in this old photo taken at Appledore.

When JW said they had "acquired" a tug during the Scutiny Committee meeting I thought they might have gone out and found something substantial enough for towing barges and possible FFS blocks from the various sites to save on the hiring costs. Similar to the Venture that has done the bulk of the Cory barges. This is classed as a "port tender" and might be okay in and around the yards pushing and pulling stuff into place. Might be better suited as a small "Crew Transfer Vessel " as an acquisition of one of those was also mentioned in that meeeting. But not sure as a full on ocean going tug though, as it only has a bollard pull of 5t. In comparison to the 21t of the Venture tug that has done the bulk of the Cory barge transfers. That seems to be up for sale, if this sales page is current. Only ÂŁ450,000.

ButtonedUpTheBack ref 07.52 post They as in the two MPs who both asked the same question.
They?
Yes see what happens...
Perhaps the ESG Loan mentioned in this article is something that might be linked especially with a couple of the recent "woke" appointments.

Scaffman ref 06.28 post The problem I have with your suggestion is that the Direct Lending Facility isfor HARL's clients not HARL as is clear by the reference to overseas buyers. The only thing that makes sense is if somehow the guarantee is to cover a contract or contracts falling within the defintion of environmental information under reg 2(1)(b) of the Environmental Information Regulations which covers '(b) factors, such as substances, energy, noise, radiation or waste, including radioactive waste, emissions, discharges and other releases into the environment, affecting or likely to affect the elements of the environment referred to in (a);' Although I cannot see how that could be the case. We will have to wait and see the response to my request for an internal review goes.
Clean Growth Direct Lending Facility
UK Export Finance (UKEF) provides direct loans within an overall limit of ÂŁ8 billion to overseas buyers. Of that limit, ÂŁ2 billion has been allocated to support clean growth projects.
The UK has a Clean Growth Strategy which defines clean growth as âgrowing our national income while cutting greenhouse gas emissionsâ.
UKEF will align its definition of clean growth with the Green Bond Principles.
Each prospective deal will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Below is a list of the types of projects that UKEF may consider to be eligible for the clean growth direct lending facility.
Renewable energy
Including:
production
transmission
appliances and products
Energy efficiency
Including:
new and refurbished buildings
energy storage
district heating
smart grids
appliances and products
I asked a while back on here, were they going for the green scheme but never got a reply.
its the only thing that fits in that I can see tbh

Today we have questions to the Scottish Ministers questions 2 and 14 made me laugh they both ask 'What recent discussions he has had with the Secretary of State for Defence on the level of defence spending in Scotland.' I did not realise that there was a problem with the level of defence spending in Scotland. May be they are concerned that if deence spending is increased in Northern Ireland they would get less.
I made a request under the Freedom of Information Act to ask for the reasoning behind the request for approval to give a 100% guarantee. I received this response.
'I refer to your request for information (set out below in italics) dated 3 April 2024, which has been
considered under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR):
âI am writing to ask if you can provide a summary of the reasons why it was decided to
provide a 100% guarantee to Harland and Wolff in relation to Export Development Finance.
I appreciate that the full submission would probably include commercially sensitive
information, therefore. In so far as it does not include such information the executive
summary will suffice.â
In response to your request:
UK Export Finance (UKEF) holds no information in scope of your request. Discussions with
Harland & Wolff in relation to a potential loan facility under UKEFâs Export Development
Guarantee are currently ongoing.'
I am puzzled as to why the request was considered under the Environmental Information Regulations as they do not seem to apply. Looks like they just do not want to give anything away.
Newest addition the H&W Puffin - Tug/workboat currently at Penzance. Not sure if sheâs powerful enough to deliver bargesâŚ.. buying more boats than theyâre making these days!
APPG Ship-building and repair is currently lapsed so he may still be Chair. Also note a Vice Chair was Gavin Robinson MP for Belfast East
I note that HARL is also a member of SMI but noone at HARL appears to be an officer.
