Yeah Pokerchips no system is perfect. I did laugh though, its a bit like Dick Turpin accusing somebody else of being a highwayman. Haho. I will move on, what's going on with court case?
Bertarm
Democracy is undemocratic ...everyone knows that ..has been for thousands of years ...
We have yet to even define democracy .... thousands of adjectives in use to define it...definitions leans towards certain interests
Sorry folks, I`ve set him off again. Tehe.
Bertram ? I don’t know why. I thought I had Already explained the leave campaign was undemocratic. I’m pretty sure you would get it if I re-worded it for you. How about if a single “woke” party had three campaigns under different names, one promoting woke, one appealing to moderate woke people and a third appealing to mind bending ignorant voters ? All at the same time, one woke party getting everyone’s votes (vote leave, leave.eu & Beleave)
It’s not democratic is it?
Made me laugh there Aus. You talking about democracy hahahahahah.
Aus
yes....the parties over there in the US do make difficult reading ..no wonder Kennedy is an Independent
..but the Conservative Bible belt voters dont give their support for nothing.....they put in Pence as VP remember
Blue state wokery and law and order chaos doesnt help either
Now College chaos added to it all
I can see though why Trump would love to be an Autocrat and admirers Putin for having achieved that ,...even Boris would have loved that Caesarian sense of Autocrat Authority
All good fun, if it wasnt go god damn serious
I have friends over there and they say they just go from points of Govt running out of cash and fearing the Govt will have to shut things down , to the theatrics of raising the Debt limit !!
Savage you’re right, except Trump is just an ignorant fool a con man at heart, there is no mystery other than he has discovered rule of law & democracy doesn’t work for him
Poker - have you seen the Republican Party lately ?
Like everything Trump touches he has corrupted the GOP. It is rife with Russian propaganda. Misinformation and lunatics. 3rd in line for presidency (house speaker) believes dinosaurs were on the ark &!their bones are planted by governments to fool people. GOP has become putin useful idiots, book burning, abortion rights, etc etc are all pressure points to split the country into further division and chaos. The Supreme Court is showing again and again it can’t be trusted and will make choices based on political convenience outside of the law. Trump only wants his truth, 6th January prisoners are hostages, right is wrong and ignorance is bliss.
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand a democracy needs rule of law, freedoms to choose, a free press to hold leaders to account and n electoral system to be trusted. In America most of this has already been poisoned. Free world is in trouble. Russia & China don’t have a grand plan, they just fund and amplify any division wearing the west & its principles. Brexit, le penn, ignorant policisns, reform party, immigration, pretend “elites” pretend “establishments “ lefty lawyers defunding courts and justice, “have and not haves” you can see it everywhere, there to u detained truth, decency, rule of law and finally democracy.
Actually the issue is that Trump is infinitely complex... like a shifting Rubik's Cube... completely and utterly impossible to predict - changing direction, speed, course and even shifting between infinite parallel universes with each passing moment.
That is the fundamental problem with him. He offers only chaos, trickery and deceit to both those he fools and those he rules over. Anyone who contemplates for a fleeting moment that Trump offers opportunity, is naïve much like a 5yr old promised candy by a delinquent & neglectful parent.
" Trump is good for business, lower tax & jobs"
yes..but a lot of that is to support personal consumption which to be honest the US economy is too dependent on ....
As AUS suggests investment in infrastructure is desperately needed
Trump tried but unless you give big,big tax breaks it is difficult to get the Private investment ..they prefer Mexico or India etc etc ..US labour costs are just too high
Aus
Yes Trump is an idiot , his first term was ALWAYS about himself......but his team will see him as useful in trying to get GOP election support ...he keeps electioneering simple for voters who can only understand things ..simple ... truth or fiction doesn't seem to matter
Then his team , I suspect, will hope to take the manifesto and run with it
"Russia China and other want to see a world order change,"
yes..and they see now as a time to keep pushing for it.... the US is very dependent on strangers offering to lend ....but..only at a price ...a price they would like to see get even more expensive , I suspect ...unless they get some leeway on political manoeuvring.....
yes..infrastructure is desperately needed .... almost too little, too late , to replace the old and falling apart as well as bring in new ...true ...
Trump suggesting he would decide interest rates ...is a frightening prospective ....
Maybe the idea in reality is to get the Election win, choose a strong Vice President with the aim of that individual taking the reigns before the next 4 years are out !!!!!
Love him or loathe him, Trump is good for business, lower tax & jobs, he gets the economy moving.
Poker - when talking debt sure it’s important to look at what is being bought. Currently new infrastructure, chip production, EV cars and batteries.
Trump increased debt by a lot & invested virtually nothing.
Debt for tax cuts is like debt for dividends, pure ideology.
If I throw in politics, Trump will sell out to Russia and China partly through greed & ego but mainly through ignorance.
Russia China and other want to see a world order change, Trump is just another useful idiot, along with farage and many others.
" US economy is showing amazing indicators. Economists don’t tend to worry about affordable debt do they? "
Aus
well . economists covers a broad spectrum I guess.... and whether any of them thinks the current debt spending is "affordable" at current rates of expansion , depends I guess on that spectrum .....and future projections ..
I think it is definitely true that no President can run that economy without a Budget deficit and borrowing ....and I guess I am not looking at who in particular is doing the spending
More a case of looking at the financials and figures as they stand .... whoever comes next is going to have to run with the baton given to them .. and I suspect whoever it is needs to get more round the table with China,Russia, Iran,Saudi etc ...than what is currently happening ...just my opinion on that
" US economy is showing amazing indicators"
yes and no.... depends how you drill down and look into them .... as a whole
As I suggest there is a lot of debt being added and a lot of Govt spending that is not creating a corresponding growth rate in relation to that level of debt and spending ..... and they are facing a similar problem of a growing number of retirees costing a lot of money in pensions and healthcare , without the corresponding birth rate needed , and looking to catch up with immigration , which may be costly to integrate
China,Russia,Iran, Saudi, probably looking to take advantage to extend the US spending and the debt and make inflation sticky too, stretching the US military and its spending , as they see now as an opportunity in time to wound the US in terms of financial pressures and achieve political advantages in terms of bargaining for power gains ...if the Chinese decide to dump Treasuries the yields would go UP,Up,UP ..and we are all in trouble !!!
Personally I don't see it all as quite as "amazing" as it may appear ....but each to their own ...these things depends on what angle anyone looks at them..sure
ATB
Poker - do you though? ….. look at things through eyes of economist ?
US economy is showing amazing indicators. Economists don’t tend to worry about affordable debt so they? Not unless they really mean politics. Plus most economists (without a right wing lunatic lean) would agree Trump wasn’t good on debt, future planning or anything else for that matter.
I think you'll find Pokerchips that US economy being king once again has far more to do with the job creation taking place:
Savage
I will leave you to judge one President against another .... i look at things more from an economists view .... so may be I see things a little different
ATB

" The Dollar is king once again thanks for Trump having been turfed out."
OMG ..so I guess inflation , war, Treasury Yields, needing more and more lenders, etc has nothing to do with it lol
Savage
Tax revenues are not any where near the level of spending ( Budget deficit of near 6%) and so are dependent on strong GDP ..... but... GDP growth is coming via inflation and GOVT borrowing ...
All this idea that everything is "strong" is a mirage on reality
Q2 and Q3 borrowing ahead of expectation .... needs now to be funded , probably needing citizens to buy more Bills at the short end , putting pressure on low end yields
(I am not a Trump fan, but the markets may prefer the GOP)
"they may believe they have a better chance resolving issues with Trump than with Biden" - LOL, that ole Trumper is a major douchebag. It's too easy to forget them days his random tweets triggered market selloffs and then subsequent buying sprees, as those around him quickly tried to switch up the narrative and move on. Fed's not really in a tight spot at all, employment is booming, wages healthy, as is demand... thereby ensuring healthy tax revenues will inflow to the treasury coffers. The Dollar is king once again thanks for Trump having been turfed out.
Savage
Yes..eyes down for the FED ... they are in a tight spot ..
If the GDP falls back further and they get in lower taxes for the Govt then that makes covering the Federal Budget even more difficult , requiring even more debt ... so might call for rate reduction
If they reduce rates to ease debt repayments that might cause more inflation and hinder growth..lenders will demand higher returns
Russia,China,Iran,Saudi Arabia will do whatever it takes almost to keep the pressure on the US Debt pressure and need for high Govt spending to go on ...Dollar merely being propped up by the Treasury yields
I think they may believe they have a better chance resolving issues with Trump than with Biden ??
It'll be interesting to see if any large Off Book trades are reported later today, they're not price setting but that spike up is unusual. Maybe someone fat fingered one of the algo's programmed to push the price down, causing the price to climb instead.
Im just wondering , was that spike caused by Mandy reinvesting 30 years of BT divi.
My god the old dogs has finally done it.
I don't think there's any news here... Maybe a few Yanks waking up ahead of their market open and placing some buys over here against shorters? Looks to me as though stakes are getting higher for shorters here, to keep up these shorts they're gonna have to stump up lots more coin... They may get away with it too, in the short term, what with Dow futures looking as though US will open up with more selling on back of yesterdays falls.
Get your buys in on the dips though (on US these US fed and BoE MPC next week) because when this kicks up (W/C 13th I think) it's going to do so very sharply imo!
Assuming they're all separate trades and not part of a single trade, then that's not a fat finger event.
