LeMajor,
Trick question.
From London through the centre of the earth brings you out off the south eastern coast of New Zealand.
Consequently, from Perth through the centre of the earth ends up in Bermuda. Which strangely enough is where a lot of Perth "businessmen" spent time and have bank accounts.
Its a funny ole world.
Typically, Utube nailed it - sort of !
In reality, the cannon ball would have vapourised before it got anywhere near the centre of the earth - which simmers away at 6000C, but iron burns somewhere around 3,500C. Come to think of it, the drill bit would turn to mush too.
Maybe Wednesday will be our turn, it's all theoretical anyway.
Gravity will reduce the closer you get to centre and start to increase as you pass centre but in the opersite direction pulling back to the centre
https://youtu.be/bVt8F7ZTrhI - good video describing what happens
how does gravitational pull affect it?
Dont be a klotz E.T. it would take 38 minutes 11 seconds to drop through the gravity tunnel. Cant settle in centre of earth as doing max speed at that point.
It would never reach oz it would settle in the centre of earth If it did ant melt first
Sea water freezes at about -3C (depends how salty), but saturated brine freezes at -21C or so.
From my youth I remember trawlers used Salt and Ice to keep fish below -4C (funny how trivia pops into ones grey cells). Permafrost melts when hot oil passes through it - but as we've not had much of that, DW pours a few cans of diesel down the pipes, come winter, to stop the pipes from cracking. Why do they call it PERMA-frost ? (clue!)
Here is a similar puzzler: If you could drill a 1m hole through the centre of the earth (London to Perth ?) and then you drop a cannon ball into it, how long would it take to reach Australia?
You guys make me chuckle....
It won't sink much because we get some new permafrost every year
ask Monty he is an expert :-)
Brom how far does it sink?
yep when the permafrost thaws in the summer and everything sinks.
Csw good news is that water is salty so shouldn't freeze guess we are good to go all year long ; )
jiddy123: also, only water has been found!
Well spotted CSW. A big freeze could be the ruin of an Alaskan Oil company - have you informed BP/Exxon yet ?
Could be a big reward waiting for you .
You are right csw and well done!
You forgot:
All we have managed to bring to the surface is water
The area freezes all winter so the drilling period is too small to be viable
And of course '3p by friday' :-)
Thank you for the good luck wishes Hmmm...
You are welcome to make guest appearances whenever you wish.
All the best.
Not only are we still in June, we could now have to factor in another stock market. It is still Monday morning in New York. We do not know from where the first announcement will come.
Jiddy - As transparent as a "pain" of glass LOL!!!
Quite agree. Pain in the ass I would say!
to be fair Jiddy - several (if not all) of your bullet points could be fair comment - I concede that the jury is still out but I've made my mind up already. I will refrain from posting again but I do hope it eventually comes good for you guys.
Has anyone looked at their calendar and realised WE ARE STILL IN JUNE?! Get a grip people, DW scheduled for June and this is still June These things always go to the wire
14.52 - I can absolutely guarantee that Brombarb and DW are not one and the same; Sir Bromby's beard could now be much the longer one lol. VGLA
No ones driving the price down apart from the awful performance of DW and his team of so called geologists in the oilest place on earth.
