My wife is in a community parents group with hundreds of concerned parents. Nearly all parents are not willing to give antibiotics without testing their children first. They are pulling their hair out trying to get hands on these tests. We need to mass producing and selling these in the million. I, as a parent will be buying a good few aswel! Rather that than give antibiotics to treat something it potentially is not.
Thanks Larry

anyone noticed we are blue again today and a few posters have disappeared?
Very interesting article on Radio 4 Today programme.
Start time 8.16.52s
Spoke about how swab testing took 2 days to get results, a nurse said there was a 10 minute test in Canada, but doubts were raised about accuracy and a doctors take on mass testing.
Do we know how accurate out LFT is ?

Thanks for your thoughts Poidster.
@B2H
Probably all winter, its going to get worse before it gets better
the slide agglutination tests (strep Groups) requires isolation of a suspect bacteria on culture media, so thats at least a 24hr + delay.
Thats what labs use when they see Beta Haemolytic bacteria on blood agar plates, crowded market, no value.
Its the near patient testing stuff, there and then thats important right now, Swabs could be taken at the same time as the LFT for subsequent confirmation if required
@21ATS, no idea tbh, but the tinterweb seems like the wild west tbh. Lets face it, they couldnt be any worse than the innova LFT tests for covid.
If it were me, and I was inclined sell these things, in the advert, I would make sure that any and all relevant validation information of said test was fully declared in the advert,
It would then be upto the individual buying the test to make their own interpretation of what they were buying. As long as no false claims were made about it, wheres the liability ?
Obvs a lot more to this probably than my late night musings but a quick trawl of Amazon would lead me to believe its open season.
The main point about this though is that this is a need that needs fulfilling TODAY, not next week, next month but now.
Novacyt because of its size is agile and able to respond quickly. This currently for them is a huge asset, for the love of god, I hope they leverage that fact.
This thread must be the longest Ive seen in a while without the cold water shower of P100 P!$$ing all over it.
So, I'd love to hear your erudite thoughts about this Mr P

Microgen Latex Slide Agglutination Test for for Strep groups ABCDF&G.
Poidster, - I have no idea whether this test is easy to do, whether it requires a lab of a certain certification, or how long the test takes. But it might be another product we could make money with in present circumstances.
We are only interested in strep A presently.
Poidster, - How long do you expect this epidemic to last. - All winter?
I've already been cheeky Mr Midget and posted on twitter Sir Digbys telegraph article , attached the chief science officers write up with a pic of a q in his kitchen and suggested a marriage made in heaven , # Novacyt , so they will see it. I wasn't too cheeky though , didn't copy the Amazon contact.
As Poidster said , interesting to see what Novacyt do , they know all this. And I admit I was braying on about a commercial Monkeypox test and that has at the moment abated and they were proven right.
So hopefully they are being proactive.
OK gang, from time to time there are great suggestions here from sensible people and I wonder if Novacyt are actually aware of these thoughts? How best might we feed ideas into Novacyt?
Direct e-mails to Consultants in Infectious Diseases was something mooted earlier this week....their NHS e-mails seem easy to find. Poidster suggested using Amazon and that made me think....Novacyt seems to like social media (not my forte) but how about using Mumsnet www.mumsnet.com to reach concerned mothers?
Before we get into debate over e-commerce sites Novacyt could tie up with Abingdon Heath who make LFTs and have their StrepA LFT on the AbingdonSimplyTest site – see www.abingdonsimplytest.com.
Brainstorming ideas – it’s about pooling and encouraging ideas so let's stop the insults and start helping encourage UK plc.
Question:
Are there different approval requirements that need to be met to allow a company to market (tests, LTF's etc) direct to end users rather than via the NHS/professionals? Using the Amazon suggestion as an outlet.....
@Sharestack, exactly.
If Nova had the infrastructure, they could market directly to the public. Failing that just ship gazillions of the tests to Amazon, take the hit on their charges and just let Amazon deal with the Logistics.
The world has changed post covid, ppl well versed now in home LFT testing.
Mention the word Children and cost suddenly doesnt become an issue. Cynical, I know and this goes against the grain for me but the other side of the coin is that they will be helping to save lives without getting embroiled with the NHS behemoth that normally screws things up anyway.
This again will be global not just restricted to UK.
Think outside of the box and earn some money for a change.
Tests for the Welsh but not for the English. £7.50 a pop, results in 5mins or less.

"There's always going to be another challenge to the population in one form or another." Agreed, the difference this time is the public's awareness of testing.
Before Covid how many parents would of thought about purchasing a Strep LFT? Testing is now so ingrained in the public consciousness that everytime an outbreak occurs the public will ask themselves, "is there a test for this?"
@k
Unlikely to be any shortages of reagents as hardly anyone manufactures LFTs for Strep A, I didn't even know they existed tbh.
They will be different reagents to the ones lab use anyway
Just another point, this just illustrates that there is a life for nova beyond covid.
There's always going to be another challenge to the population in one form or another.
This may sound ghoulish but this is the industry in which nova work.
As I have said before, the R&D, world class, this is now a challenge for marketing so be equally as good.
Before anyone jumps on me about profiteering on others misfortune, this is the industry we're in ppl.
Taking a leaf out of the Tories playbook, look for profit first.
If I were of a similar mindset, I should set up a company now, buy 1000s of these LFTS from Novacyt, then flog them on amazon for £50 per test.
See how it works ?
Thank you Poidster.
Anyone know how long it takes to manufacture these Strep A LFTs and if there is likely to be any shortages of key ingredients ( don't know correct terminology ) reagents / covid springs to mind. I can't imagine Novacyt have huge quantities of these just sitting around .
Yes poidster, there's some horror stories on the socials about the shortage of paediatric ABs. Blanket prophylaxis is an idiotic idea, test -isolate- treat is the way to go.
I've got 4 courses of amoxicillin 500mg sitting in the cupboard if anyone is stumped ;-)
Bizarrely it's easy to get hold of ABs in the US without a prescription if you know where to go. A legal loophole that allows doomsday preppers etc to get hold of them. $30 for a hundred from reputable outlets. I keep them because every dental abscess I've ever had has started on a Friday.
@neil,
No not really, in this instance v rapid identification is key, any PCR type test takes time.
If the LFT has been validated, which im assuming it has, it can be done there and then there's so many coughs colds sore throats atm, an almost immediate differential diagnosis can lead to immediate treatment or not
