It's clear this isn't going to be a wider conflict. It will be Iran vs everyone else.

I anticipate Iran will eventually talk and then oil starts flowing easily again. They just don't have the capacity to shut the strait off for an extended period.

According to what is probably a slightly biased source, roughly 3/4 of Iran's launchers and missiles are gone. It ties up with the number if missiles reducing dramatically after the first day or two. They're basically spent.

Possibly, but I would say that Israeli intelligence is likely to be aware of such things.

It kind of looks like they've given all they've got in terms of missiles. The fact they've had to rely on Russia for their intelligence indicates they are severely damaged in terms of capabilities already.

It's absolutely bonkers that there was no planning to at least mitigate a shock to the oil supply though. Reeks of incompetent governance.

A higher oil price, if sustained, kills Republicans even more in the midterms. They will likely lose the senate as well given the cost of living and the economy is the top concern for voters.

Agree, honestly cannot see a sustained increase from the war. It would have to be months upon months of constant tit-for-tat strikes.

It strikes me as different from the Russia situation, which was a commitment to a sustained supply constraint by those demanding oil.

I get the feeling oil will drop very quickly at a given moment. Like said buy others, will obviously push up averages.

Now we are going to be potentially paying rejected asylum seekers families 40k to leave. Apparently it's a cost saving but hopefully this is a very short-term thing.

These destitute people manage to have about 20-30k a head for the trip to the UK so apparently it's not an incentive. They will start and end up with more money than people working and paying taxes in this country have seen in their lifes in their bank accounts.

The whole immigration thing is just gamed and lapped up by our doormat of a country. Rant over, sorry, out.

Getting 1 useful person ffrom.abroad for every 4 supported on welfare doesn't work. Especially when the financial incentives are to import labour that is cheap because they were trained abroad.

I speak to a nurse when I'm at the gym. Lovely guy, just wants to do his job and climb up, but he says he feels the diversity thing has stopped him getting promoted because they have criteria to meet, and they are big on meeting it . How about investing in our own people to upskill them and build dignified careers. Diversity in this case is really just a front for being about money. Cheaper to get an Indian doctor than invest in people. It's all short-termism.

Over 20% of the working age population are out of work, yet our stats spin us having a roughly 5% unemployment rate, what a joke. This country could go on a economic boon of 1/4 of those got into the work place.

Just let that sink in that about 25% of people, the vast majority of whom can work, are not.

It's more likely that, if the energy spike is expected to be short-lived, that another government guarantee for energy prices comes in.

With not a lot of growth, the blunt instrument of interest rates would probably dampen inflation, but it would cause a spike in unemployment. I cannot see interest rate increases from here. Famous last words ;)

This spike might feed into an elevated average cost, but I believe it might fall as quickly as it has risen. Just my two cents. What's more, 5% inflation is worrying, but it definitely isn't super-high. I doubt we'll get anywhere near that, if we see an increase at all.

It's held up quite well here considering the irrational panic. It would have been nice to have another dip for my pension, but oh well! Maybe I'll treat myself to a sausage roll instead

Prices are down on lots today with little real impact.

Yes, oil prices are going up, but they always go up too much in these cases. It kind of makes the whole renewable drive a bit more interesting though. Sure, winds stop blowing but not because of warmongering!

Indeed, that's why the price is where it is, I guess. Yeah, I'm a total coward personally: debt scares me so nothing I hold has a net debt position, anymore 😂. Yeah, I get that with the macro stuff.

It's a funny debt position. Fwiw, the mood music was good on the call, but I'm guessing there might be some very red-faced bankers sitting in the audience with a huge write-down on their hybrid holdings and unable to shift it ATM. It felt like the CEO was almost apologising to the debt markets, might just have been me, so at least he gets it.
