For anyone interested in what Brittain Ladd has to say, he has said the following this afternoon on LinkedIn. Worth noting the last bit:
“Let me clarify a few things that I've been able to confirm:
Kroger is paying Ocado a one-time $350M fee to close three robotic warehouses (MD, WI, FL) and cancel a planned Charlotte site, shifting strategy to fulfillment from stores. The partnership continues with five remaining sites, including a Phoenix location opening soon.
Key news as of December 6, 2025:
Payout: Ocado will receive $350M from Kroger, largely offsetting future fee losses (est. $50M reduction in 2026 revenue).
Closures: Three existing Customer Fulfillment Centers (CFCs) in Frederick (MD), Pleasant Prairie (WI), and Groveland (FL) will close in January 2026.
Cancellations: Kroger has scrapped plans for a Charlotte, NC facility (due 2026).
Ongoing Partnership: The deal remains active for five remaining sites, with Phoenix expected to open in 2026. Note: The next CEO of Kroger may choose to cancel the project or end the relationship completely with Ocado.
Strategic Shift: Kroger is pivoting from Ocado's robotic warehouses to using its existing store network for some online order fulfillment. However, Kroger is testing Ocado's store-based MFC system. If the next CEO of Kroger likes the results, it's possible that they will open MFCs from Ocado.”
