Hello RM, thank you for your usual highly-knowledgeable reply. As ever, you display a breadth of expertise and world vision denied a mere amateur like myself. The only perplexing question that your explanation raises for the 'mere amateur', though, concerns the 'warning off' of institutions from small caps. I must be misunderstanding this. Surely small caps - like SGZ - fundamentally need institutional investors if they are to have any hope of ever becoming big caps?

It would seem to be a very odd time indeed to be offloading now. Particularly if any seller has been one of us who has stuck with SGZ for years and years.

Eck, I wonder if you possibly remember the seemingly never-ending saga I had with the 40p options that Barclays had "lost"? Months and months of phone calls, letters and emails it took, across two continents.

At last, I got them correctly credited to my account. What a blooming irony if, after all that, they prove to be not worth exercising!

Oh absolutely, Baz, I cannot dispute your observation that there have been multiple opportunities to sell shares at a profit. Of course you are totally correct in this.

The blame which accrues to me is that I haven't wanted to be a trader. Rightly or wrongly, I wanted to be a long-term participant in the SGZ "adventure". This far, it has been "wrongly". Let's hope for a change to "rightly".

I think part of the problem is a justifiable fear of coming a cropper, Bigoiler. There's a bit of a history with SGZ rights issues that means you'd probably be best to stay your hand and use the same amount of money to buy more shares when the price descends lower than the rights issue price. I went in 100% on the 25p rights issue and, so far, that's the only one that's proved a success for me personally. Even with that one, though, the associated options are still not yet worth exercising at 40p. And remember the £1 options attached to the 60p rights issue before that?

Certainly excellent that those 'big beasts' that you mention, Baz72, have backed the company solidly.

But doesn't that reinforce my original point, though. If 70% of the company is now in the hands of just four people, where will there be sufficient float to churn the price in the open market? 'Direct investment to the company' will surely have no effect on the share price?

All said in the best spirit of belief in the company's success. I have less confidence in the medium-term success of the share price, even when we achieve production. That will be a better proposition when the other resources come on stream in the longer-term.

I do sometimes wonder if the huge shareholding in the hands of our Chairman has the potential for being a bit of a two-edged sword.

Yes, it has given the company - and us - a massive amount of confidence and has enabled us to get where we are and where we are going.

But could the oft-lauded small free float actually - and ironically - act as a deterrent and a drag on the share price? If a potential large-scale investor cannot get their hands on a worthwhile number of shares, are they going to bother? An institutional investor is certainly not going to fuff about picking up 1000 here and 1000 there.

Just a thought that I throw into the mix.

Liked the bit about brokers playing the game, TLC. As you'll have seen from my never-ending saga, I've virtually had to explain on Amateur Hour to Barclays, very patiently in simple words like talking to an infant, what exactly options are, LOL

No, Barclays are still searching. Behind the sofa. Up in the loft. Maybe they left them on the roof of the car before driving off? Good job I've still got until the end of December. They've so far only taken just over 50% of the available time since the RI !!!!

I guess there'd be no way of avoiding it. Unless a consortium of shareholders all got together and agreed to convert their options on the same day, so an aggregate RNS could be issued. The number of options held by most individuals will be relatively small. My own - when I do eventually exercise them - will only amount to 6,796. So, unless, as I say, I can find another investor who'll convert on exactly the same day as me, I guess I'll provoke another RNS myself, as will all other holders. There's no way round the regulations.

Yes, Calpe. I remember it as the only up-market bit of a holiday in Beni. My one and only. The rest of it was decidedly down-market. Mind you, I was only about 20 at the time (yes, even yayay was young once!) I recall, through a deep alcoholic haze, 1) Getting into a fight with a Manchester United supporter in a night club, 2) Falling into a hole where they'd dug roadworks, and 3) Being very, very ill after a meal of Swordfish (to this day, my GP in DG13 has on her screen for me "Allergic to Swordfish").

Terrible behaviour. Equivalent to the worst-ever tantrums of the Hon. Basil (Mark 1).

I now know more certainly than ever that, sadly, I shall never meet all you members of the SGZ crew at Tyndrum. I suffer terribly from the effects of alcohol. Always did, really, even as a much younger man. My nine-stone frame always started at a distinct disadvantage. But nowadays even just reading of your legendary exploits on this page makes me feel positively ill, LOL
